As the Farmers’ Protest unfolds in the national capital, Delhi Metro stations are taking precautionary measures to ensure public safety. In light of the protest organised by nearly 200 farmer unions marching from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, several metro station gates will remain closed till evening. The heightened security measures are in response to Section 144 being imposed in parts of Haryana and across Delhi, along with traffic advisories issued by state governments.
As part of the security measures, Gate No. 2 of the Central Secretariat Metro Station will remain closed till evening today due to the Farmers Protest. This decision aims to streamline passenger flow and maintain order during the anticipated protests. Commuters planning to use the Delhi Metro are advised to take note of the closure and plan their journeys accordingly.
In addition to the closure of Gate No. 2 at Central Secretariat, other metro stations in Delhi will experience gate closures as a precautionary security measure. According to a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official, “Some gates of Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Janpath, and Barakhamba Road have been closed as per security instructions. However, the stations are still operational.”

While the closures are expected to affect passenger access points, the overall functioning of the metro stations remains unaffected, allowing commuters to use alternative entrances for their journeys.
With the Farmers Protest prompting concerns over security, authorities have imposed Section 144 in the whole of Delhi, restricting public gatherings. This precautionary measure will remain in place for the next 30 days to maintain law and order. The Delhi Traffic Advisory has also been issued, outlining diversions and guidelines for different categories of vehicles.
For inter-state buses using NH-44 to reach destinations like Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, etc., diversions have been implemented. Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) are advised to take Exit No. 2 on the NH-44 intersection for routes to Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, and others. Diversions for cars and light goods vehicles travelling to Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, etc., have also been detailed in the traffic advisory.
