The Ishvaku royal and Bharat’s foreign policy

Jai Shri Ram, Jai Shri Ram, Rajaram! This happens to be the clarion call and the sacrosanct swan song of the day in the historical and cultural escapade of Bharat as a civilizational national entity. In the Mumbai Cinema Dom, Adipurush did not do well commercially due to technical reasons, but the marching ahead cavalry war cry of Jai Shri Ram, Rajaram, resonated across the distant nook and crannies of the nation’s cultural ecosystem as the saffron clad Ishvaku royal, Bhagwan Ram leads the monkey force along with all strains of mankind to mount a final assault on the scintillating but doomed citadel of Lanka housing evil incarnate.

It’s not a contrivation which was made out to be one, when, few teachers taught the Divine Right of Kingship to undergrads all across the length and breadth of academia in the nation. Bharat’s Foreign Policy draws its origins from the hymns of Rig Veda when the divinity blesses and endorses the all-conquering and domineering intent of the King Samudragupta and he pounces upon the enemy hordes in a storm strewn battlefield which is mired in the haze of a dust storm which billows out of the all racing chariots of Emperor Chandragupta. Here comes the global catch and the gerrymandering on the part of the “International Community”. The Occident expressed its derision at the Indic inquest in the classical age where in the Indic intent was equated with the rigmarole of aggression and hegemony in the then global ecosystem amongst the variant civilizations.

The present day New Delhi dispensation chaperoned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi too places a dividend on aggression but with a more than subtle nuance of external relations. The New Delhi denomination has forwarded the insignia of a Peacenik nation, which intends to be a great power and that too with the kill potential but here the narrative changes. Deterrence through nuclear might and equally potent and modernized military heft comes through as the cornerstone of India’s Foreign Policy. New Delhi has declared and strategically pitched the nation’s foreign policy objective in a crystal clear manner. What it means for the nation is the factoid that tangibility of Force Majore is to be utilized as a deterring instrument to keep the arch antagonists and detractors at bay. Yes sayers have nothing to be fearful with the Bhartiya pelf, stolidity, and forced lethality in a turbulent global comity of nations in an international system roiled by conflicts. After all, the nuclear debate between the strategic thinkers espousing Massive Nuclear retaliation and the other school advancing the notion of Punitive retaliation is resident in the Indian security architecture only.

Bhagwan Ram, the Ishvaku Royal espouses the core idiom of a welfare state and recessed aggression. The Divine one eschews the royal throne for the sake of the weight of the word and family pride. Seen symbolically, Bhagwan Ram ties up with the phalanx of provincial actors in order to combat the Satan incarnate in the genre of Ravana, the Asuraking. Bharat in the present context too strives to spread the all pervasive scriptural sentiment of, Ekam Sat Viprah Bahuda Vadanti” and , “Vasudhev Kutumbkam,” where in the selfless and valorous country love and its external relations remifications are the order of the day. Sri Ram signifies the concept of Rashtra and the subdued but potent new found strength of inclusion and power projection through just means. What needs to be emphasized with aplomb is that “Rama effect” has been an all-pervasive and all-assimilating practice even in South East Nation States of the order of Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran and even in the nation’s arch antagonists of the order of the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and their cantankerous real politique noisy external policies.

Benoy Kumar Sarkar wrote in Hindu Culture as World Power published by the Shanghai Commercial Press in 1916 that, “If we exclude the Assyrian, Egyptian and the Percian Monarchies of Ancient Times, then the Mauryan Empire in Bharatvasrsha, occupied the first rank in the larger international system. There was anarchy in China and with the incursion of Barbarism inside the Roman Empire while Europe was immersed in the Dark ages and devilish epoch. The Saracenic Caliphate of the followers of Islam was yet to come. It was the people of Hindustan who enjoyed their real place in the Sun.” Still, the Indic literature and the Rama epitome does enshrine an element of the super hero ilk which has been further toned dowed by the current New Delhi dispensation to the level of being a genius. The perennial do godder and philanthropic spirit of the Hindu nation emanates almost surreally as a fait accompli in the tenets of the contemporary Foreign policy where wars are just, a bereaved mankind’s upliftment along with the larger good of the comity of nations happen to be the grandiose yet subtle order of the day. Ram Ayenge to Palana Sajooeinge aur unko makhan mishri khilaoingee happens to be the credo of the manifest arrival of the Ishvaku Royal.
