In a swift response to incidents of religious insensitivity, Uttar Pradesh police made arrests in two separate cases related to the disparagement of Hindu deities on the day of Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha.
On January 22, Divya Yashasvi, a self-proclaimed “atheist,” was apprehended by Pilibhit Police for using derogatory language against Bhagwan Ram and Mata Sita on social media, specifically on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
Yashasvi’s provocative posts caused widespread outrage, prompting social media users to tag UP Police and Pilibhit Police.
Responding promptly, the authorities traced Yashasvi’s location, leading to his arrest. Notably, he had openly challenged users to tag Pilibhit Police in one of his posts. Pilibhit Police confirmed the arrest and registered an FIR against Yashasvi at Sunghadi Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

While some of his posts were flagged by X as rule violations, they were still accessible at the time of this report.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In a parallel incident in Ghaziabad, a man from the Muslim community was arrested for walking a dog with a tag of Shri Ram on the animal’s neck.
Kaushambi Police acted upon receiving a complaint alleging that a person from the Muslim community was displaying a Shri Ram tag on a dog. Upon verification, the police found the complaint to be accurate and promptly arrested the individual.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
These incidents have raised concerns about maintaining communal harmony, especially on significant religious occasions, prompting law enforcement to take swift action to curb potential tensions.
