Bihar: The three-day tour of RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat in Bihar took an unexpected turn on Friday, December 22, 2023, when an incident occurred during his visit to Maharshi Mehi Ashram in Kuppaghat. Dr Mohan Bhagwat’s visit, marked by tight security, witnessed a moment of confusion and concern among security personnel.

On December 21, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat landed at Patna Airport and proceeded directly to Bhagalpur. Tight security accompanied him throughout his journey. Upon reaching Bhagalpur, he lodged at the residence of Neeraj Shukla, a Sangh affiliate, located at Khalifabagh Chowk.

Following the scheduled program on Friday, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat visited Maharshi Mehi Ashram in Kuppaghat. The ashram, under heavy security from district police and central agencies, warmly welcomed Dr Bhagwat. However, amidst the organised arrangements, an incident occurred that left security personnel astonished.

A prepared list of welcomers was in place for the Sarsanghchalak’s arrival at the ashram. While people greeted Dr Bhagwat, an unexpected guest, identified as Munna Baba, approached with a book. Munna Baba, also a temple priest at Variety Chowk in Bhagalpur, handed over the book to RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and attempted to touch his feet.

The security personnel, noticing Munna Baba’s peculiar attire of glasses and cap, immediately grew suspicious. Munna Baba introduced himself, claiming to be the brother-in-law of Ashwini Choubey, Union Minister. The unexpected approach led security officials to question Munna Baba and move him away from Dr Bhagwat

During the subsequent investigation, it was revealed that Munna Baba was not on the list of authorised welcomers. Despite being a frequent visitor to the ashram and having received an invitation, his unanticipated actions raised concerns. An IB officer on duty pointed out a security lapse on the part of the district police, prompting further scrutiny.

DSP Headquarters Raushan Gupta confirmed that the person in question was questioned due to suspicion, and it was later clarified that Munna Baba had indeed been invited. Divya Prakash, Secretary-General of the All India Saints Satsang Association, emphasised that Munna Baba is a regular invitee to the ashram, but his manner of approaching the RSS Sarsanghchalak raised suspicions, leading to his removal from the vicinity.

The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of thorough security protocols during high-profile visits, with authorities emphasising the need for meticulous planning to avoid such lapses in the future.
