Guwahati: In a transformative stride towards holistic well-being, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and the Andrew Yule Group, have joined hands to unravel the Ayurvedic potential of Assam tea. The monumental memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, graced by the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, not only signifies a significant collaboration but also lays the groundwork for positioning Assam as a premier destination for healing tourism in the Southeast Asian region.

This strategic partnership aims to delve into the health benefits of tea and explore its applications in Ayurvedic medications and treatments. The MoU outlines a comprehensive research plan, wherein AIIA will meticulously examine tea samples from the seven tea estates owned by Andrew Yule & Company (AYCL) in Assam. The objective is to conduct detailed lab research, analysing the diverse teas from the lens of Ayurveda to discern their impact on human health.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, a staunch advocate for scientifically cataloguing the traditional health benefits of tea, sees this collaboration as a pivotal step in validating the age-old wisdom surrounding tea consumption. The agreement positions AIIA as a pioneering institution in bridging traditional knowledge with modern research, aligning with the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The collaborative effort extends beyond research, as AIIA and AYCL are set to work hand in hand to provide technical recommendations aimed at enhancing the health benefits and utility of tea. This partnership holds the promise of unlocking the herbal and healing power inherent in tea, transcending its current status as a cash crop.

In a statement, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal underscored the profound impact of tea gardens, envisioning their mesmerising effect on rejuvenating both health and mind. He emphasised the unique potential of Assam, combined with the healing touch of Ayurveda and Yoga, to burgeon into a thriving hub for wellness tourism. This aligns seamlessly with the overarching vision of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, who seeks to empower Assam and propel India towards self-reliance by 2047.

The MoU signing ceremony, witnessed by key officials including Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development and Ayush, Dr Munjpara Mahendrabhai, and the Director of AIIA, Prof (Dr) Tanuja Manoj Nesari, signifies a collective effort towards harnessing the healing synergy of Ayurveda and Yoga amidst the serene backdrop of tea gardens.

As the collaboration progresses, Assam emerges not only as a producer of exceptional tea but also as a beacon for those seeking a holistic approach to well-being. The union of Ayurvedic wisdom with the rich heritage of Assam’s tea culture holds the promise of unlocking new vistas in healthcare and tourism, propelling the region towards a brighter and healthier future.
