In another case of targeting civilians, a former vice village head has been killed by the Ultras in insurgency-hit Chaibasa of Jharkhand. The development occurred days after a BJP functionary was hacked to death by the extremists when he was returning after offering prayers in Maoist-affected Chotedangapur of Narayanpur

In yet another incident of targeted killings of political workers by the extremists, a former vice village head (Up-sarpanch) has been killed by the cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the insurgency-hit Chaibasa region of the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Tuesday, December 12.

According to the reports, the Maoists shot dead the vice village head in the Gudri area of Chaibasa. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Purti. It’s been reported that the Ultras have also left leaflet near the body of the deceased, in which they have alleged Purti to be a police informer.

In a video pertaining to the incident put up by the News 18 network, Purti’s body can be seen lying on the ground along with a leaflet dropped by the ultras.

It is worth mentioning here that this is not the first time that the ultras have targeted any civilian in the region, and the ultras have carried out similar acts of terror in the past as well.

Similar incidents in Maoist-affected States

It is worth mentioning here that the Maoist-affected regions of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha have witnessed a huge surge in incidents of civilian killings by the Ultras, where more than a dozen civilians, including political workers, have been killed in the last year alone.

Recently, in another such incident reported from Narayanpur of insurgency-hit Chhattisgarh, a local political worker of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) was hacked to death by the Maoists on Saturday, December 9. The deceased was later identified as Komal Manjhi, a resident of Chotedongarpur.

The incident occurred when Manjhi had gone to visit a local temple when the extremists hacked him to death with a sharp weapon. It’s been learned that the deceased and his uncle were on the radar of the ultras for quite some time, following which both of them were taken to a safer locality during the state assembly polls by the police.

However, after the elections both Komal and his uncle decided to return to village following which the ultras killed him. It’s been reported that the Maoists also left leaflet near the site of the murder.

Meanwhile, taking to the social media platform X, the state unit of the BJP while paying condolences, wrote that the Naxals have once again carried out a cowardly act in which the party has lost another devoted fumctionary.

It is to be noted that this is not the first time that the extremists have killed a political worker in the state, and earlier too the extremists carried out acts of political killing several times.

Earlier, as many as three leaders of the BJP, including the district vice-president of Narayanpur, were also killed by the extremists in back-to-back incidents that unfolded around six months before the state assembly elections.
