Amid the ongoing Peoples Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) week being celebrated by the Ultras, a gunfight broke out between security forces and the Maoists (Naxals) under Chotanagra / Jaraikela police station limits of Chaibasa in West Singhbhum, Jharkhand on Thursday, December 07, informed police.

As per the details, the encounter occurred when a joint team of personnel from Jharkhand Jaguar, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were out on a combing operation in the forest of Saranda. It’s been learned that, sensing the upper hand of the security personnel, the Maoists soon fled the spot, following which an extensive search operation was launched in the region.

It’s been reported that during the search, security personnel destroyed an impermanent Maoist camp while also seizing explosive materials, ammunition, and large quantities of daily-use materials. The recovery by the security forces includes 15 pieces of electronic detonators, 20 pieces of 9-volt batteries, a battery connector, an Insas magazine, a medicine box, and other daily use materials. The team also recovered a printer and as many as six sets of Maoist uniforms from the spot, suggesting presence of a number of cadres.

It is to be noted that the Maoist outfit is celebrating the 23rd anniversary of the PLGA across the Maoist-infested regions of the country, in view of which the security personnel have been keeping an extra vigil to prevent any possible untoward incident.

It is worth mentioning here that the security forces in Jharkhand have been running continuous search operations in the forest region of Saranda and nearby regions, the only stronghold left for the extremists in the state. Earlier, in a similar search operation launched in the Maradiri forest region under insurgency-hit Goilkera police station limits of Chaibasa the joint team of security forces also recovered and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Saturday, December 02.

In another similar operation launched in Tonto police station limits on November 26, the joint team of security forces also unearthed and destroyed an IED device near Rajbasa village. The joint team in the operation had also destroyed as many as three Maoist hideouts while seizing daily-use materials from the camps.

It is worth mentioning here that due to persistent efforts put up by the security forces in the past few years, the extremists in the state have been forced to confine themselves in a limited region in the forest of Saranda. The development occurred after the forces augmented their presence in regions like Budha Pahad and Parasnath Pahadi, erstwhile bastion of the extremists for decades.

The swift operations carried out by the forces on a consistent basis also led to the surrender and arrest of many top commanders of the outlawed Maoist outfit.
