In a shocking incident, Devendra Thakur, the district secretary of BJP Jhuggi Jhopdi cell, was reportedly attacked by around seven supporters of Congress MLA Arif Masood near the Habibganj police station at 12:30 am on December 6, according to police sources. The assailants allegedly wielded swords and sharp-edged weapons during the assault.

Habibganj police station house officer Manish Raj Singh Bhadoria revealed that Thakur was in Arera Colony at the time of the incident when he encountered the group of supporters, identified as Farukh, Shahrukh, Aslam, Billu, Bilaal, Akbar, and Amir. The attackers reportedly hurled abuses at Thakur, referencing the recently concluded Assembly polls.

Upon Thakur’s protest, the situation escalated as the assailants brandished swords, knives, and sharp-edged weapons, launching a violent attack. Thakur sustained injuries to his back, stomach, and the middle portion of his right palm, which was cut more than half. Quick intervention from Thakur’s associates forced the attackers to flee, and he was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The police registered a case related to the incident on Wednesday morning, leading to the swift arrest of all seven accused by the afternoon. Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Dhruv Narayan Singh asserted that the party would fulfill its election promise, ensuring the legal consequences for those responsible for such acts of violence. The incident highlights the ongoing tension between political factions in the aftermath of the Assembly polls.

Notably, a similar attack was launched on BJP party workers in the Indore district following the election results.

On December 3, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) registered a thumping victory in three of the Hindi heartlands of Bharat. The results were way opposite to the predictions made by analysts and political pundits in their survey and ‘poll of polls’. Celebrating the landslide victory, the party workers in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore organised a victory march. While the party workers were celebrating the win and passing by the streets, Islamists living there threw boiling water at them, leaving many severely injured and even admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, the incident occurred as the procession of BJP workers passed by the residence of Vakil Pathan, as stated by an official from the Khajrana police station.

Pathan expressed disagreement with the procession and engaged in a verbal dispute with the participants. Subsequently, he physically assaulted and verbally abused them, as reported by the official.

As per the FIR, under Pathan’s instruction, his wife Shabnam hurled boiling water at the members of the procession.
