The outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) commenced its week-long People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) 23rd anniversary celebrations on Friday, December 02. During the week-long exercise, the Ultras usually carry out more attacks on the security forces and government establishments, disrupting transportation routes such as roadways and railway tracks.

According to the information, the extremist outfit also released figures pertaining to casualties suffered by the banned outfit in the last year. In a press release, the Dakshin (south) Sub-Zonal Bureau (DSZB) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) confirmed that as many as 54 Maoist cadres had been killed in encounters with the security forces in the last 11 months.

In the press note issued by the Maoist, the DSZB spokesperson, Samta said that a total of 26 Maoist have been killed in encounters with the security forces in Dandakaranya region while the figures pertaining to casualties remained 9 and 6 in Bihar-Jharkhand and Telangana respectively in the same period of time.

Further, the press release read that as many as four Moists have been killed in the Maoist’s newly created MMC (Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) zone, while a total of 5 Ultras have been neutralised in Odisha in the same period. The extremist spokesperson also informed that most of the casualties in the Dandakaranya region were reported from Bijapur.

It is worth mentioning that security in the Maoist-affected areas has already been beefed up and strict vigilance has been kept in view of any possible disturbance carried out by the Ultras. Additionally, train services between Kirundal and Dantewada have also been kept on hold for a week in view of the ongoing PLGA week.

Maoist killed villager in Pankhajur

In yet another incident of targeted killing of civilians by the Maoist, a upsarpanch of Kandadi village under Chotebethiya police station limits of insurgency-hit Kanker district was brutally killed by the Ultras on Friday, December 02. The deceased has been identified as Ramsu Katlami, a resident of Kandadi village.

According to the reports, the deceased Ramsu Katlami was produced in the Janadalat (Kangaroo Court of the Naxals) where he was sentenced to death and was killed subsequently. The Maoist also dropped leaflets and erected banners in Achinpur, branding Ramsu as an informer.

The murder of Ramsu occurred days after Maoist killed as many as 3 civilians in Naxal infested Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra in the span of 15 days. It is to be noted that the Maoist-affected regions in the Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions of Maharashtra, Telangana and Odisha have witnessed a huge surge in incidents of civilian killings by the Ultras, where more than a dozen civilians, including political workers, have been killed in the last year alone.
