Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on October 19, dedicated the Shraddhanji flyover to the service of the people. It may be noted that the flyover that connects Gauhati Commerce College- Sundarpur on the RG Baruah Road and Mother Teresa Road towards Geeta Mandir has been constructed, involving a financial outlay of Rs 316.11 crore. The total length of the flyover is 2.28 km. The foundation of the flyover was laid on January 29, 2022, and it was scheduled to be completed by July 20, 2024. However, the construction of the flyover has been completed in just 19 months.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he was feeling very happy to have been in a position to inaugurate the Nilachal Flyover at Maligaon and Shraddhanjali Flyover at RG Baruah road before Durga Puja.

“Both the flyovers would lead to smooth flow of the traffic thereby giving great relief to the commuters. Though, the Shraddhanjali flyover was earlier planned to be 1 km long, considering the need and demand of the people the length has been revised to make it 2.28 km long. Considering the volume of traffic in Guwahati city, the new flyovers would ease traffic to a great extent. The State Government has been working very dedicatedly to give piped water connection to the city dwellers,” Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

CM said that in spite of several inconveniences, the State Government is committed to take steps for the beautification of Guwahati city considering the fact that Guwahati is the gateway to South East Asian Nations, the city must have matching infrastructure. Therefore, State Government is working to create infrastructure to add convenience to the people.

He said that in the coming days, the State Government is going to construct rotaries at ‘Bhut Nath’ and ‘Machkhowa’ and build a connecting road to divert traffic of both the points bypassing Bharalumaukh. There will be another flyover at Bharalumukh connecting MG Road and RK Chowdhury Road.

Himanta Biswa Sarma added that the construction of the proposed 6 km flyover from Handique Girls’ College point to Bamunimaidan, involving a financial outlay of Rs 888 crore, will be started from January next year.

“The four-lane flyover with two-lane roads on either side of the flyover with adequate parking facility will prove to be boon for the commuters and traders in the area,” the Chief Minister said.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that from Pandu, an elevated corridor to Kamakhya will be built, for which a tender has been floated. A new flyover from Arya Nagar to a point crossing Barsapara will be built. The under-construction flyovers on the national highway in Guwahati will be completed by April of next year.

“Moreover a six-lane road from LGBI Air Port to Gauhati University will be laid with a provision of rotary at the Deepor Beel. By April 2024, 1.24 lakh households will be given piped water connections. By August next year, 2000 CCTVs will be installed in Guwahati,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The CM sought cooperation from all sections of the people to make the State beautiful and more liveable.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, MP Queen Oja, MLAs Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Atul Bora, GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania, DGP GP Singh, Police Commissioner Guwahati City Dignata Barah, and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
