While the India and the rest of the world nations are supporting Israel, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), known for its anti-national, rabid Hindu phobic, pro-Naxal and pro-fundamentalists, has expressed its support to Hamas terror.
India formally recognised Israel as a country on September 17, 1950, and full diplomatic ties were established in 1992. And during both these instances, the Congress was ruling India. However, India’s position in Israel was restricted for a long time due to Congress vote bank politics. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi even recognised the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) as the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in 1974. And India was the first non-Arab State to do so. The PLO militant wings openly engaged in acts of violence against Israeli civilians, both within Israel and outside of Israel and were even designated as a terror group by the USA. The then (in 2012) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that support for the Palestinian cause has been a cornerstone of India’s foreign policy and that India supports the struggle of the Palestinian people to achieve a sovereign, independent, viable and united state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side and at peace with Israel. This stand of the Congress-led Government was viewed as a vote bank politics aiming to appease its Muslims in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Things have changed after National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed Government at the Centre. During the BJP regime, India has nurtured good relations with the Jewish nation. Israel, on its part, extended diplomatic, military and intelligence cooperation with India at times of crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian PM to visit Israel. Since then, the two countries have become close partners in various fields, from agriculture to defence. This is why India announced its full support to Israel immediately after the Hamas attack on Israel’s soil, targeting strategic installations.
In Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram Lok Sabha Member Thol. Thirumavalavan led VCK, which is one of the members of the I.N.D.I Alliance has blatantly come out to support Palestine even as the Islamist terror group Hamas carries out deadly terror attacks against Jews in Israel. Aloor Sha Navas, an MLA from the Nagapattinam constituency and spokesperson of the VCK, said that India, which has a history of not recognising Israel as a country for a long time, should stand with Palestine.
He said, “When Israel was formed by usurping Palestine, it was not even recognised as a country and did not share diplomatic ties. Such is the history of India. By that convention, #IndiaStandsWithPalestine is only right. Let us reject the BJP, which stands with Israel.

Meanwhile, Thirumavalavan, in a video doing rounds on social media, can be heard saying, “All Muslims and Christians must vote in the ensuing 2024 Lok Sabha elections. If BJP comes to power once again, no one can save India. They will abolish the Constitution. They will make #SanatanaDharma the official religion. They will declare it as #HinduRashtra. They will bring the President’s rule. They will never hold the elections. Muslim women do not come to vote like Muslim men do. I appeal to all Muslim women to come and vote! 100 per cent of Muslims, Christian men and women, elderly persons, physically challenged, and people working abroad must vote without fail this time. If PM Modi is to be ousted from power, Non-Resident Indian (NRI)s or Person of Indian Origin (PIO)s working abroad must come to India and vote. It is compulsory to come to the polling station and vote instead of staying at home! Congress Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Alliance parties should win 40 out of 40 Tamil Nadu and Puducherry constituencies. So don’t forget that all minority ethnic people should vote 100 per cent”.
