In the midst of ongoing attacks on Hindu minorities all around the globe and instances of idol desecration, a Hindu woman was imprisoned on alleged blasphemy charges in Bangladesh. Local Hindus assert that these accusations are unfounded and motivated by personal animosity. However, the woman was put behind bars.
The incarcerated Hindu woman, identified as 45-year-old Rupali Rani Das, hails from Gouramba Union in the Rampal Police Station area of Bagerhat district.
According to available information, on September 26, Yasin Khandakar lodged a formal complaint at Rampal Police Station against Rupali Rani Das. The complaint alleges that Rupali made derogatory comments about the founder of Islam. Acting on this complaint, the police apprehended Rupali Rani under Sections 153, 298 and 506 of the Bangladesh Penal Code.
Significantly, on September 24, while Rupali Rani was drawing water from a nearby well, a dispute erupted with a Muslim woman named Momena Begum. During the altercation, the Muslim woman issued threats. Subsequently, she disseminated false information about Rupali within the village, including making defamatory remarks about Muhammad and Islam.
