PM Modi inaugurates 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya in UP; children of migrant workers to get free residential education

In a big relief to the children of migrant workers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya in 18 districts where children of migrant workers can get fully residential free modern education.

The idea to provide free education to the children of migrant workers was mooted by Uttar Pradeh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after he heard their plight about not being able to go to school. Later the government also included those children who lost their parents during COVID19 pandemic.

It is first of a first-of-a-kind initiative by any State government. On September 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 16 schools under Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya Yojana in 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Ahead of the inauguration, Prime Minister was seen interacting with the students also.

PM Modi inspecting model of a school to be built under Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya.Work on the construction of such schools had commenced and it is spread over 12-15 acres. These schools are being built at an average cost of almost Rs 65 crore each.

It was the strong will of the government that despite COVID 19 pandemic and the lockdown, the work on these schools was completed on time. Two mores uch schools are under construction and they are likely to be completed by year end.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced that in phase 2, every district will get one Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya.

CM Yogi Adityanath UP CM Yogi Adityanath stated, “1400 children who lost their parents and guardians in the Covid era, are given admission in 18 schools of the first phase of the Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas… Sports and skill development will be focused, and the curriculum is based on the National Education Policy.”
