Assam: Passenger tries to open emergency exit midair; gets arrested at Agartala Airport

Agartala: On September 21, a passenger on an IndiGo flight was arrested, at the Agartala airport for allegedly trying to open the emergency exit door of the aircraft midair, and pushing the co-passengers in terrible danger.

Police said that the accused passenger not only tried to open the emergency exit midair but also misbehaved with the crew members.

Tripura police spokesman Jyotisman Das Chowdhury informed that the arrested passenger identified as Biswajit Debnath (41) was flying on a Guwahati-Agartala IndiGo flight. But all of a sudden he tried to open the emergency exit of the aircraft in midair. Alerted co-passengers pulled him back and averted a major accident.

Police said that arrested Biswajit Devnath was under the influence of drugs as said by other passengers in the aircraft.

Debnath was arrested by the Airport Police after the flight landed at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. Police said they will get his medical checkup done and will produce him before the magistrate. But the exact motive of the passenger is yet to be known.
