A young Hindu girl, hailing from Delhi Cantt, was enticed into eloping with Aas Mohammad, who masqueraded as “Sonu” under the pretence of offering her a job opportunity. Subsequently, Sonu, originally from Uttar Pradesh, induced her conversion to Islam and arranged a Nikah ceremony. Once the victim discovered his real identity, she decided to return home, prompting her family to file a formal complaint. As a result of the family’s complaint, the police apprehended the perpetrator.

Almost three months ago, the minor girl came in contact with one Sonu, her family belongs to a lower middle-class group and hence everyone in their house works somewhere. Her parents work as labourers. Sonu, who worked as a carpenter befriended her and later asked her to move to Uttar Pradesh, where he cane get her a better job. He also expressed his love to her and the minor agreed.

Almost a month ago, she left her parent’s house in Delhi Cantt and moved to Uttar Pradesh with Sonu. She lost touch with the family, they had no idea about her whereabouts and they have been looking for her. After some time they found she was with Sonu whose actual name is Aas Mohammad and then the complaint was registered.

A First Information Report (FIR number—113/2023) was registered at the Aichora Kamboh police station of the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on September 19 and the same day police arrested the accused.

In the complaint, the minor’s father Kamlesh told the police that, he is a resident of the Rajapuri area of Delhi Cantt. Her daughter left the house with a man named Sonu who offered her a job in Uttar Pradesh. After reaching there she lost touch with the family, when the family started looking for Sonu they learned that he is Aas Mohammad, a resident of Pansukha village of the Sambhal district.

When they finally tracked him, the family found that he has married their daughter as per Islamic rituals and also got her converted to Islam.

Following the complaint the police booked the accused man under IPC section 363 (abduction), 366 (abducting woman to compel marriage) and sections 3 / 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.
