In July this year, a shocking videotape scandal unfolded in a small town in Karnataka, Udupi and sent shockwaves across the country. In this case, Muslim women studying at a nursing college intentionally videotaped Hindu women studying in the college to circulate obscene clips among co-religionists. A similar case has been reported from the Hindi heartland, Bihar this week. As per the information, a roommate recorded an obscene video of the victim and shared it with her male friends, who made it viral using a WhatsApp group.

Following the outrage, a case was registered against the accused and they were nabbed by the police. The incident pertains to the Madhubani district of Bihar.

How the video was circulated?

As per the media reports, the victim and the accused are the students of Madhubani Engineering College located in the Pandaul Industrial Area. The accused, a woman secretly recorded her roommate taking bath and later shared the clip with her male friends. These men made a WhatsApp group and shared the clip in the group which later went viral.

Other students of the college got to know about the video on September 11 and called for a widespread protest demanding action against the perpetrators.

Following the protests, the college administration suspended the male and female students involved in the case. As per the details available, all the students are in their second year with the civil branch.

Students organised a protest

After the students organised a massive protest and sloganeering at the college campus, police were called. The victim’s statement was recorded and based on the victim’s statement an FIR was registered against the male and the female student who recorded and shared the clip.

The victim, a native of Munger, stated that she used to live with a woman native of Darbhanga, Bahadurpur, in the college hostel. The accused recorded her video and shared it with a male fellow who is a native of the Arer area. The accused male student later shared the clip on the college WhatsApp group. Upon learning about the video clip, the victim reached out to the dean and complained against the accused on September 10.

Police arrested the accused students

The college administration tried to cover up the matter and instead to taking action scolded the victim and snatched her phone. The victim called her parents who reached Madhubani on September 11 and an FIR was lodged at Sakri police station.

SI Neha Nidhi of Sakri police station reached the college at around 12 noon on September 11. By then, angry students had gathered regarding the said incident. After taking the statement of the victim student, the police held the accused student.

Meanwhile, the angry students caught hold of the accused student and started beating him. While police tried to rescue them. During this, the students broke the glass of the gate of the college. Many students also got their hands cut in this.

The angry students also damaged the police vehicle. The students closed the main gate and started demanding the expulsion of the accused student from the college. Seeing the matter worsening, the senior officer was informed. They all reached the college accompanied by the armed police force.

The matter was pacified by talks with the protesting students at around 5 p.m. On the demand of the students, the Principal immediately expelled the accused student from the college. Meanwhile, the police arrested the accused student.

The Ududpi Case

A video scandal unfolded in Karnataka, at a private eye hospital and nursing home, Netra Jyoti, located in Udupi, when some of the female students found cameras inside the bathrooms. Following the recovery, the college administration suspended as many as three girls with immediate effect. The incident is said to have happened on July 21.

As per the media reports, the accused students have been identified as Alimatul Shaifa, Shabanaz, and Aliya. They were all students at the nursing home. Netra Jyoti College of Udupi, located near the Ambalpady Bypass and is a famous nursing home in the area.

The matter escalated when it was revealed that all the accused students belonging to one community were collecting the clips of Hindu students only. Later on, they supplied these clips to the men in their community. Further reports indicate that the intrusive videos were not just limited to private sharing but were also disseminated on wider social media platforms. Many link this incident with the famous rape scandal in Ajmer, in 1992.

As soon as the truth came out, the Hindu students protested and demanded strict action be taken against the perpetrators. However, a scuffle broke out as the accused clashed with them, leading to high tensions in the college.
