Tamil Nadu: Supreme Court lawyer files complaint against Udhayanidhi Stalin for comments against Sanatana Dharma

While addressing a Sanatana eradication conference held in Chennai, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “The title of this conference has been excellently coined. You’ve named it  ‘Abolish Sanatanam Conference’ and not ‘Oppose Sanatanam Conference’, so my best wishes to that. Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated completely. Same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, it is my request to you all to give an apt title to the meeting.”

“His comments have not gone well with people in Tamil Nadu. CM Stalin, Speaker M Appavu, Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and former minister A Raja have been consistently saying that the government is for Christians and will do everything to fulfil their demands. Pastor George Ponnaiah said DMK won because of their alms (votes).  if perceived in this background the holding of a conference, timing, the remarks of member of the first family clearly exposes their design to destroy Hinduism and sana tana dharma”  VHP TN media incharge Arumuga Kani stated.  He further added that Udhayanidhi Stalin had openly said that his wife was a christian and so is he.

Given that the DMK is a prominent partner in the I.N.D.I Alliance and is a serving minister, Udhaya Nidhi Stalin’s comments have sparked a political uproar, with many criticising the DMK Minister for his hate speech.

DMK and allies working on agenda to denounce Hindu religion

Thol Thirumavalavan, a senior in the DMK’s ally VCK, had said that according to the Manu Smrithi, all Hindu women are prostitutes.  K Veeramani, the leader of the Dravidar Kazhaga, remarked that Krishna is a womaniser and a skirt chaser. Ezra Sargunam, a Christian bishop, claimed that there is no Hindu religion, while another claimed that there are many temples in Tamil Nadu that are Satanic shrines. The DMK and its allies have a well-defined and well-rehearsed plan to eliminate Hinduism. According to CM Stalin, only clay idols should be utilized and Vinayagar idols should not be placed in public areas. It is a subtly denial of permission for Vinayagar idol installation and immersion.

Complaint filed against Udhayanidhi Stalin

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal on September 3, 2023 filed a complaint against DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin with the Delhi Police for his comments about Sanatana Dhrama (Hinduism).  He  took to his social media handle and said that he filed a complaint against Udhayanidhi Stalin under sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295 (destruction, damage, or defilement of a place of worship or an object held sacred, with intent to insult the religion of a class of persons), and 504 (Insult intended to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

“There is a move to file cases against the organisers and speakers of the conference. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister Sekar Babu ( clad in saffron dhoti) attended the conference. A minister who was under oath to protect the temples and in charge of administration, attended a conference stirs controversy. It is a blatant affront against Hinduism. He should also be booked with a prayer for his removal from the TN cabinet.” said Arumuga Kani.

Responding to a social media post threatening him with “legal remedies” over his remark Udhayanidhi Stalin said he wasn’t intimidated by “usual saffron threats” and will keep fighting for “social justice”.  A handle on social media platform X, going by the name Legal Rights Observatory, posted that it was “exploring various legal remedies to eradicate filthy mosquitoes denigrating Sanatan Dharma”.  To this, the Udhyanidhi Stalin said, “Bring it on. I am ready to face any legal challenge. We will not be cowed down by such usual saffron threats.”

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Sunday said that equating Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks on ‘Sanatana Dharma’ to call for genocide is a “mischievous spin”.  In his  X ( twitter) handle , he said “Sanathana Dharma is nothing but code for a Caste Hierarchical Society. All those batting for it are hankering for the Good Ole Days! Caste is the Curse of India. in the common parlance of TN “ Sanathana Dharma” means Caste Hierarchical Society. Why is that everyone who is batting for “SD” comes from the privileged segment who are beneficiaries of the “Hierarchy” There was no call for “Genocide” against anyone, this is a mischievous spin”.
