To limit any mass gatherings and stop any unpleasant occurrences or illegal activities, Delhi Police enforced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code over the whole city in preparation for the G20 Summit in the nation’s capital. It has been reported that public holiday is likely to be announced for various government and private offices and also academiv institutions and commercial establishments from September 8 to 10, 2023.
What prompted Delhi Police to impose section 144?
In the notice, Delhi Police has categorically stated that they have come to know that some criminals, anti-social elements, or terrorists may pose a threat to the general public’s safety, dignitaries during the G20 summit. Such anti-social elements could target vital installations by using unconventional methods such using parachutes, paramotors, hang gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircrafts, quadcopters, or even pars-jumping from the aircraft.
Imposition of ban on certain activities
The Delhi Police is leaving no stone unturned to make the anti-social elements bite the dust. Hence they have imposed ban on the folowing activities over the jurisdiction of the NCT of Delhi during the G20 Summit 2023 in the National Capital of Delhi:
- Para-gliders
- Para-motors
- UAVs
- UASs
- Microlight Aircrafts
- Remotely Piloted aircrafts
- Hot air ballons
- Small Sized powered aircrafts
- Quadcopters
- Parajumping from aircraft

Violation of any of these activities will result in punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is prohibited.
Defacing of the Delhi Metro stations by the Khalistanis
The Delhi police is on its toes as it does not want to take any chance as recently Pakistan sponsored Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) had indulged in defacing some of the Delhi Metro stations by painting pro-Khalistani graffiti.
Though the police quickly swung inti action and DCP Metro Ram Gopal Naik said that a case was registered under sections section 153 A, section 505 and Defacement Act.

About the G20 Summit
India has the presidency of the G20 summit and prior to the main summit which is scheduled to take place on September 9 and 10, 2023, related events such as meetings of the Sherpas, central bank deputies and meetings of finance officials will be held from September 3.
