Pepperfry’s co-founder Ashish Shah announced in a post on twitter about the sudden death of Ambareesh Murty, the co-founder of Pepperfry, online marketplace for furniture and home decor. Ashish Shah took to a microblogging site wherein he stated that he was totally devastated to know the news of Murty’s sudden demise.

Know all about Ambareesh Murty?

Ambreesh Murty, had completed his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta in 1996. As an entrepreneur he made his mark when in 2011 he founded Pepperfry and was its Chief Executive Officer.

His stint as an entrepreneur started when he was pursuing his graduation, he started giving tuitions at home. Later he established a small business called Tutors’ Bureau that connected tutors with school students. It was for two years that he ran this venture.

Before setting up his own venture, Murty held key positions, including Country Manager at eBay India, Philippines, and Malaysia. His strategic prowess at eBay played a vital role in shaping the company’s growth trajectory. He also made significant contributions as the vice chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).

He was at the helm of things in big brands like Levi Strauss and Britannia Industries. He began his career with Cadbury and later held positions at Prudential ICICI AMC

Presently, the worth of Pepperfry is 500 million dollar. An investment of 244 million dollar was made till 2020 and its investors include Goldman Sachs, and Bertelsmann India Investments.

Industry leaders in shock over sudden demise of Ambreesh Murty

Soon after the news of the sudden demise of Ambreesh Murty spread, industry leaders were dismayed. Entrepreneur and podcast host Rajiv Srivatsa said that it was tough to be an entrepreneur in the category of furniture and building and to build a brand in the past decade was a big thing.

Swati Bhargava, co-founder of CashKaro.com also expressed shock over the sudden death of the 51 years old entrepreneuer. In her condolence message she lauded Murty as an inspiring entrepreneur and his legacy must be endured by Pepperfry.
