On August 7, the Haryana police demolished illegal shanties of Rohingya Muslims in Nuh. The police also stated that they were involved in the anti-Hindu riots following the Shobha Yatra. A day after this, the Punjab police arrested as many as 13 people in a case of cow smuggling and illegal beef trading, out of 13 arrested, 12 are identified as Rohingya Muslims.
This case is a shocker for many and a lesson for those who in the name of human rights supported the immigration of Rohingya Muslims into India. Tens of thousands of Rohingyas are believed to be currently living in India in various states, most of them having illegally entered India through the porous border with Bangladesh in West Bengal.
12 Rohingya Muslims arrested in Punjab
On the complaint and input of Hindu organisations, the Jalandhar Dehat police raided a factory located in the village Ghogadi that falls under the Adampur police station and seized beef. By renting a closed factory named Neha Toka located on the road, a meat seller from Delhi, Imran, a Muslim businessman, was getting beef meat packed here illegally. Police have also caught 13 people packing beef, out of whom 12 are Rohingya Muslims and one is from Bihar.
Following the information police recovered as many as 25 quintals (2,500 Kg) of beef from the factor which had its cold storage system. It has also come to light that the smugglers exported around 200 quintals of beef till they got exposed. The reports also claim that they used to carry saffron scarfs, put tilak on forehead as they go out for dealings.
Kamimi Bhagat, former chairman of Gau Sewa commission, leader of Hindu organisations, and Shiv Sena leader Ishant Sharma said that cows roaming on the streets of Jalandhar were being caught and slaughtered here and exported abroad. On the recovery of beef in large quantities, SSP Dehat Mukhwinder Singh also inspected the factory and directed the teams to investigate and take action.

Gau Raksha Dal chief Satish said that when the raid was done with the police, the watchman ran away from the spot by closing the gate. When the gate did not open for a long time, the police entered the factory by jumping over the wall. Thirteen people were caught on the spot, while some fled as soon as they got information about the raid. In police interrogation, the youth from Bihar told that he had reached the factory only two days ago. He said the beef is not cut here, the factory deals with the packaging of the beef.
He added, from here the beef gets packed and goes to Delhi and other states. Packed meat worth tonnes has been found in an illegally run beef packing factory.
Activists of Hindu organizations said similar beef factories were also caught in Bihar, Delhi and Rajpura. It was from there that they came to know about the beef business going on in Jalandhar.
As per the information received, the accused men used to smuggle cows from different states to cut them down. They used to export the meat after putting rags of vegetables over the beef packed in bags. Out of 13 arrested Muslims, 10 are from Bengal, and their leaders, Imran Qureshi, Pravesh Qureshi, and Anjam Qureshi, are from Meerut.
These men hired Muslims from Bengal, who used to cut the cow to transport the beef further. Imran and his family are habitual offenders as far as the cases of cow smuggling is concerned. Imran’s father, Bablu, was booked by the Bihar police for smuggling on August 7, 2022.
Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR against 16 persons including factory owner Imran Qureshi, Parvesh Qureshi, Azam Qureshi, Muzaffar Islam and 12 others at the Adampur police station in Jalandhar. The accused have been booked under Sections 295-A, 153-A and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 5 and 8 of the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955.
Haryana police arrested 25 Rohingya Muslims
In a massive crackdown against Islamists who attacked a Hindu religious procession in Haryana’s Nuh on July 31, the Haryana police arrested some Rohingya Muslims. The Superintendent of Police, Nuh, Narender Bijarniya, told the media that, Rohingya refugees had illegally occupied lands in Haryana’s Nuh, and during the demolition drive, police found some of them were also involved in anti-Hindu violence.
SP Bijarniya said Rohingya refugees had illegally occupied the land of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran in Tauru, due to which the demolition drive was carried out, but some of them have also been identified for pelting stones and being part of the mob during the July 31 violence.
“We have identified a list of them who were involved in the violence and we have evidence for it and based on it the teams have arrested them,” said Bijarniya while speaking with the Hindustan Times.
The Rohingya Muslim crisis and threats
Rohingya are predominantly Muslim refugees from Myanmar who fled their homeland following the targeted violence against the community by the government in 2017.
There are about 16,000 UNHCR-certified Rohingya refugees in India. The government estimate puts the figure of Rohingya refugees living in India beyond 40,000 with maximum concentration in and around Jammu.
Rohingyas have been entering India illegally just like their Bangladeshi Muslim counterparts for nearly one-and-a-half decades now. In India, the Rohingyas tell horrific tales of their persecution at the hands of Buddhist residents and the Army back in Rakhine — of murder and rape, of political subjugation and ill-treatment.
India does not have a national policy or law to deal with “refugees”. India is also not a signatory to international laws such as the 1951 UN Convention and the 1967 Protocol that protect the refugees from being returned to where they came from.
