State of Washington declares July 28th as Equality day to honour Ramanujacharya

The State of Washington has decided to honour Ramanujacharya, a popular Hindu philosopher and an exponent of equality by declaring July 28 as “equality day”

The State of Washington is known to be a home to a diverse population of multiple races and ethnicity and is committed to upholding the rights, dignity and equality of all the people. In the proclamation of the United states of America, it has been mentioned that  Ramanuja was born in 1017 and practised and propagated the concept of equality across various religions, castes, gender and status.

Teachings of Ramanuja serve as a reservoir for present day schools 

In the present day, the teachings of Ramanuja with special focus on equality, will serve as a reservoir for the present day schools.

Objective of Equality Day

Governor Jay Inslee, in his proclamation mentioned that the equality day which is dedicated to Ramanuja is an opportunity to remember and honour the legacy of Ramanuja’s philosophy and it continued to inspire the people of Washington.

Ramanujcharya is an epitome of Equality

Ramanujcharya’s views on equality brought light into the darkened lives and he embraced those who were discarded by society. He also opened the temples for them and included them in the administration.

About Ramanujcharya

Ramanuja was born into a Tamil Brahmin community, in a village called Sriperumbudur (present-day Tamil Nadu) under the Chola Empire. It’s been more than a thousand years that this divine personality sanctified the earth by his presence. Today, the world is advocating his ideology.
