Silchar: Four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the Gumra area in the Cachar district in Southern Assam bordering Bangladesh. The arrested Bangladeshis were identified as Shafiq Ali from Sylhet district, Mutasir Ali and Jabed Ali from Habiganj district and Mohammad Ali from Sunamganj district. As per the report, the arrested Bangladeshis entered India illegally three months ago. Police sources said that the Bangladeshi entered Indian territory with the help of a broker and travelled to various parts of India, starting from Jammu and Kashmir to Bangalore and Delhi.
They were apprehended in Gumra bazaar in Cachar by the Village Defence Party (VDP) on July 30 evening. Later they were handed over to the Cachar police. In police interrogation, the arrested Bangladesh nationals revealed that they were provided with fake Indian documents by their broker and travelled with those fake documents. They also did labour jobs in various cities and recently returned to Assam. The purpose of their return is yet to be known. But the arrest of the four Bangladesh nationals in Cachar on their return journey from many cities of the country shocked everyone.
Assam STF arrested eight brokers involved in Rohingya Muslim trafficking
In a major crackdown against the trafficking of Rohingya Muslim immigrants, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam has arrested eight brokers from Tripura so far.
STF Assam conducted an operation along the bordering districts of Tripura and arrested eight persons in connection with the STF case No. 01/2023 U/S 120(B)/ 121A/ 153A(1)(b)420/ 468/471 IPC R/W Section 12(1)(a)/12(1A) (a)(b)/12(2) of the Passport Act registered in Cachar district in 2022.
The operation was carried out by five police teams of STF Assam with Tripura police in various Bordering districts of Tripura.
During the operation, eight brokers involved in Rohingya and Bangladesh nationals trafficking were arrested. The arrested brokers help intruders cross the border and provide them with fake Indian IDs to travel and work in India. Mainly Rohingya Muslims were trafficked by the racket into Indian Territory using fake IDs and other travelling documents. They help Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals to cross the Indian border in Tripura and arrange fake travelling documents to show the illegal Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshi nationals as Indian Citizens.

After getting fake Indian IDs, these Rohingya Muslims mainly travel to big Indian cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Some travel to Jammu and Kashmir from Kumarghat Railway Station (Tripura). STF sources revealed that these Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals mainly board Kolkata/Delhi/ Hyderabad/ Bangalore bound trains from Dharmanagar, Kumarghat train station in Tripura and Badarpur station in Assam by using fake IDs. The arrested brokers by STF were identified as Pervez Hussain and Abdul Hussain from Sepahijala District in Tripura, Md. Shaahadat @ Sahadat SK of Chandpur in Bangladesh, Shib Sankar Ghosh @ Boto from Belonia in South Tripura, Kartik Nama of Belonia in South Tripura and Bijoy Barua from Chittagong in Bangladesh. Earlier, Assam STF on July 29 arrested two persons from Tripura in connection with a Rohingya trafficking case. The two accused, Sagar Sarkar and Kajal Sarkar, were arrested from the Mohanpur area under the West District of Tripura by a team of Assam STF. While conducting the raid, the STF team also detained one Bangladeshi national.
Earlier on July 18, a man was arrested in Tripura’s Belonia concerning a human trafficking case registered in Silchar, Assam. He was arrested in Belonia along with a Bangladeshi woman. The accused, Partha Sen, was charged with various sections of the Passport and Foreigners Act and human trafficking of Rohingyas to Assam and other parts of North East India. A highly placed source of Assam STF said that based on the investigation carried out so far, it would carry out operations in other parts of the country where Rohingyas are located after entering Indian territory.
