The Congress led newly named opposition I.N.D.IA is likley to bring in the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government and force him to speak on the Manipur issue. The no-confidence motion will be moved in the lower house of the parliament which is the Lok Sabha during the ongoing monsoon session.
The NDA led government is planning to bring in various important bills in the house and is aiming at giving the much needed legislative push.
Know when did Congress led opposition and others brought no-confidence motion
In the past, it was in 2003, that the Congress led oppostion had brought about the no-confidence motion against Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government. The NDA led government by PM Vajpayee was able to defeat the motion, thereby making it the first non-Congress led government to complete the full term.
Meanwhile, in 1999, Vajpayee led government in 1999 had lost the no-confidence motion by one vote. Also in 2018, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) along with the support from other opposition parties moved against PM Narendra Modi led government and it felt flat on their face as the government defeated the motion by 325- 126 votes.
Presently, the opposition needs the support of at least 50 Lok Sabha members of parliament to move the no-confidence motion or else it would be dismissed by the speaker of Lok sabha.
Objective of the No-Confidence Motion
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the Congress leaders said that the main aim is force PM Modi to speak on the ongoing situation in Manipur. Meanwhile, another Congreess leader spoke to one of the media houses where he said that bringing in the noconfidence motion would be the last option.
The opposition stated that the parliament was not able to function as they have alleged that PM was not willing to speak in the parliament on the ongoing Manipur violence issue.
PM Narendra Modi hits back at the opposition
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on the Opposition over the continued disruptions and ruckus in Parliament over the Manipur issue, claiming that their conduct suggests that they have decided to remain in the Opposition.
Addressing the BJP’s Parliamentary Party meeting earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi said, “From the Opposition’s conduct, it seems that they have decided to remain in the Opposition. We have to work in the interest of the public and move forward.” He added that India’s image has been elevated before the world and the BJP will keep putting in the hard yards in this direction.
“Today, India’s image before the world has improved significantly and we are committed to keep working in this direction,” PM Modi added at the BJP meeting. He further said that the government, under his leadership, will work to make India a ‘developed nation’ by the end of the ‘Amrit Kaal’ — 2047.
“By 2047, we will make India a developed country,” he said.
