Karimganj: Alert locals of Karimganj in Assam foiled an attempt by a Muslim man to abduct a minor Hindu girl in Silchar road in Karimganj city in Southern Assam on July 20 evening. The alert locals rescued the girl from the clutches of the abductor who was identified as Monjurul Haque tried to attempt the young girl on Silchar Road at around 8 p.m.

Kidnapper Monjurul Haque tried to pull her onto his two-wheeler while she was returning home from tuition classes. The minor girl screamed after she was pulled by Monjurul Haque and alerted the locals.

Swiftly, dozens of local people came forward to rescue the minor girl. They also apprehended the kidnapper. Local police were informed, and a team of police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.

Hundreds of locals gathered at the police station and demanded severe punishment for the accused. Heavy force was deployed to control the situation. The family of the minor girl said that Monjurul Haque had been stalking her since long.

Earlier in the nearby Hailakandi district, a minor Hindu girl was abducted and raped by a Muslim boy on July 5, and later the girl died in hospital on July 6. Prime accused Zubair Ahmed and two of his friends, Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin Majumder, abducted two minor Hindu girls. The girls were on their way to school.

The three accused persons took the girls to the Noonibali tea garden in the Cachar district in a car. But later, the 13 years old schoolgirl was found in serious condition by the locals. The local people told the Hailakandi police that the boy Zubair Ahmed abandoned her when her condition deteriorated and fled from the spot. The locals brought the minor girl to her school and handed her over to her parents. Later the girl’s health condition deteriorated at her home, and her parents informed the police. She was rushed to Hailakandi civil hospital, but the doctors in the hospital referred her to Silchar Medical College, seeing her serious health condition.

Hailakandi police arrested two accused Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin on July 6. But the prime accused, Zubair Ahmed, who raped the 13-year-old school girl, was absconded for several days. On July 18 night, the accused person Zubair Ahmed Talukdar, 26, of Bornibridge Grant, under Algapur police station, was arrested. He has been arrested under section 366/376/302/34 IPC and Sec 4 of the POCSO Act.
