Targeting Hindu women for conversion by luring them into fake love traps, has become the new normal. Three different cases have been reported from Uttarakhand over the past 15 days. The first being in Dehradun, then from Rudrapur, and finally from Nainital. All the accused used fake Hindu names to trap the women and later started pressuring them to convert.

Shabez posed as Sameer

The mother of a 13-year-old girl gave a written complaint to the Nehru Colony police station on July 17 against one Shabez for sexually exploiting her by posing as Sameer.

The truth came out almost two months ago; however, the accused beat the woman so much that she did not collect herself to register a complaint against him. The victim is divorced.

The woman used to work at a private firm and lives in Chameli with her family and daughter. At her workplace, she met Sameer, a resident of the Rajeev Nagar area. He introduced himself as a Hindu and hence made a physical relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage.

When the victim learned about the truth, she confronted him, but instead of apologising, he beat her up and started pressuring her to convert to Islam. He blackmailed the victim with their intimate pictures and clips.

Following the woman’s complaint, the police have arrested the accused, Other than charges of rape and fraud, the accused has been booked under Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act.

A live-in relationship turned into a nightmare

A shocking case of a fake identity trap to lure women into conversion has come to light in Rudrapur. Here, a Hindu woman gave a written complaint at the Sitarganj police station on July 10.

As per the media reports, the victim said she had a love marriage with a man almost five years ago. However, he used to beat her up on a regular basis; hence, they separated.

In the following year, the woman met a man from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, who posed as a Hindu. Soon they fell in love and decided to move in. After moving in with him, she found that he was a Muslim.

The victim also lent the accused a sum of Rs 1,00,000, which he never returned. He had physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage.

It is alleged that the accused had also tried to sell the victim. After the accused lie was busted, he started threatening the victim. when she asked for her money, he abused her. Later, he left her and started living with another girl in Rudrapur Transit Camp.

When the woman confronted him about his religion, the accused began forcing her to convert. He was also planning to get her killed.

Following the abuses and threats, the victim registered a complaint against the accused. She told the police that he was living with another Hindu woman in Rudrapur.

Saif abducted a minor

In a similar case, the father of a minor Hindu girl from Haldwani’s Kathgodam police station area filed a complaint against one Saif on July 8, 2023.

The victim alleged that the accused managed to lure his minor daughter into his fake trap and took her somewhere. He fears, the accused will get her converted to Islam.

Following the victim’s complaint, the police swung into action and nabbed the duo on July 10. The accused was sent to police custody. He was booked under sections 366 and 363 of the IPC among other charges invoked based on the victim’s complaint in front of the magistrate.

The valley state is witnessing rising cases of Love Jihad- A term used to refer to a pattern of crime where Muslim men pose as Hindus to trap, Hindu women for conversion. The term is quite common in media these days and many women and girls have lost their lives in this.
