Vivek Agnihotri announces ‘Kashmir Files Unreported’ featuring real victims of genocide: Soon to hit OTT

On July 19, in-famous director and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri announced the OTT version of the film, ‘The Kashmir Files.’ The film released last year, featured the real-life victims of the genocide of Hindus in the Valley state. Despite constant accusations of being ‘propaganda’ and charges, the film broke all records as far as the budget is concerned.

It is pertinent to mention that the film, The Kashmir Files made it to the list of 301 films from India, eligible for the Oscars Award, 2023.

Sharing the teaser and poster of the upcoming film/series, ‘Kashmir Files Unreported’ Agnihotri said it will feature the real-life stories of the victims. In the series/film, victims will share details of the attacks they have faced while the genocide unfolded.

Agnihotri took to Twitter and said, “PRESENTING: A lot of Genocide Deniers, terror supporters & enemies of Bharat questioned The Kashmir Files. Now bringing to you the VULGAR truth of Kashmir Genocide of Hindus which only a devil can question. Coming soon #KashmirUNREPORTED. Be ready to cry.”

‘The Kashmir Files Unreported’ will premiere on OTT (over-the-top) platform Zee5 but the release date has not been announced.

The streaming service also shared the teaser of the project and said it will help the viewers “rediscover the neglected chapters of Kashmiri Pandit’s history”.

“Some tragedies are still yearning for a closure… #TheKashmirFilesUnreported coming soon,” ZEE5 tweeted.

The trailer of the film opens with visuals from ‘The Kashmir Files.’ It is mixed with real footage from the Kashmir valley from the late-1980s. We also see glimpses of Anupam Kher as well as visuals of violence.

In the following video, the victims narrate their ordeal and demand justice.

Netizens have expressed their anticipation for ‘The Kashmir Files Unreported’ in response to the filmmaker’s post.

A user wrote, “Kashmir Unreported is the one more answer to Genocide Deniers of I.N.D.I.A Coming soon #KashmirUNREPORTED. Be ready to cry.”

Another user wrote, “Thank you, Vivekji!!! For standing up steadfastly for Dharma! Praying that now at least wisdom dawns in the minds of the naysayers!”

Another user tweeted, “Looking forward to it. We must confront the wounds before finding the courage and determination to heal them.”

Notably, the film ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which was released on March 11, 2022, is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus during the Kashmir insurgency in 1990. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.

According to some estimates, 1,00,000 people of the total 140,000 Kashmiri Hindu Families (including Pandits and Dogras) had to migrate between February and March 1990. By 2011 only 3000 families were left.

On December 25, 2022, “The Kashmir Files”, was awarded as the ‘Best Film on Human Rights’ by the LIFFT India Awards 2022. The film was selected as the best film in the category of films made on human rights.

The movie was praised by viewers all over the world, but a section of the Indian film fraternity, politics and liberals were not in favour of screening the movie at the theatres. Indian opposition parties and Leftist political parties tried to run down the movie.

The film was also played by the 700-strong Hindu Society members at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. However, the Muslim faction was against the decision.

The film, Kashmir Files was also awarded with the Golden Film of Indian Cinema at the Indian Television Awards (ITA). The movie was also nominated for Switzerland International Film Festival.

Apart from ‘The Kashmir Files’ project, Agnihotri is also working on a project called ‘The Vaccine War’, featuring actors such as Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, and Pallavi Joshi.

This film will be released in 11 different languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Assamese. Initially planned for a 15 August release, ‘The Vaccine War’ is now expected to hit the big screens during the festival of Dussehra.
