For the past couple of months, the Delhi metro has been in the news because of attention-grabbing incidents that occur on its premises. Recently, the Delhi metro has been all over social media. A video of a woman shouting and slapping a co-passenger inside the Delhi metro is making the rounds on the internet.

The viral video was shared by a Twitter account called ‘Ghar ke Kalesh’ on July 3. The caption of the video is “Kalesh b/w a guy and a Girl Inside “Delhi Metro) – Girl slaps him too hard just think if it was vice-versa”. The video has got over 129 thousand views and grabbed everyone’s attention.

In the clip, a woman wearing a checked shirt is seen standing next to a man, initiating an argument, and yelling at him, expressing her disapproval about something. However, it is unclear why the fight broke out, and the man in blue remained silent throughout the altercation. At one point, the woman yelled at the man and suddenly, at one point of time, she lost her cool and slapped him. The video was recorded by someone in the same compartment and posted it online. Everyone present there saw the two fighting but did not step in to intervene and allowed the assault to continue.

The video has gone viral very quickly and getting numerous likes and views. Its widespread circulation has also spurred a discussion over whether it is acceptable for a woman to hit a man as opposed to what may happen if the roles were reversed. Many feel that the man would probably suffer serious consequences if the situation were reversed.

Many people have shared their disregard for the video. Twitter user John Harry said, “This brat woman should be immediately arrested. Police should take suo moto cognisance of this. What if it was a man even shouting at the woman (forget slapping) ?”

Another user Ray of Hope expressed his disappointment and said, “People of Delhi don’t deserve metro”. Twitter user Prateek called out the fellow passengers in the video and said, “people in the train failed as humans. A true disgrace in the name of humanity, shameful”.

In the comment section of the viral video, user P Singh showed said, Too bad.. If the guy had reciprocated, he would have been termed as the aggressor and put up behind the bars. Few girls these days, unfortunately, are not able to handle the situation and often play the victim card later”. Another user Abhishek Sharma commented about gender equality and said, There is a gender inequality b/w men or women since, earlier times but the difference at earlier women faces negative impact & at now men faces negative impact of this. At least someone try to told them to stop the fight in public transport”.

This is not the first time the Delhi metro has been in the news. A few months back in April, a viral video of a young man who is purportedly seen masturbating in Delhi Metro went viral. The video is being widely circulated on social media wherein the man indulges in the obscene act while sitting on a seat in Delhi Metro. It can be seen in the video that his actions are making everyone around him extremely uncomfortable.

The Commission has sent a notice to Delhi Police DCP, Delhi Metro, seeking an action taken report. The Commission has asked Delhi Police to provide a copy of the FIR along with details of an arrest made in the case.

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal stated, “A man can be seen in a viral video shamelessly masturbating in Delhi Metro. It is absolutely disgusting and sickening. The accused must be arrested and strict action should be taken in the matter”.

“More and more such cases are coming to light in the Delhi Metro and exemplary action needs to be taken against such persons so that women’s safety is ensured in the Metro,” she added.

After the video went viral, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a statement asking the passengers to behave responsibly while travelling in the metro and adding that the passengers “should immediately report the matter to DMRC helpline giving details of corridor, station, time etc”.
