Bihar police on July 1 lathi-charged Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test (CTET) aspirants as they protested against the state Government in Patna over the ending of the domicile rule.
The protesting aspirants are demanding the implementation of a domicile policy in recruitment.
“A case will be registered against the protestors. They are taking to the roads causing traffic jams, stopping school students and causing damage to the property,” Nurul Haque, DSP Law and Order Kotwali said.
He further said, “They will have to go to jail for this. The police are removing them using lathis to control them.”
On June 27, the Bihar Government made an announcement stating that eligible candidates from all states can now apply for teaching jobs in Government-run schools in Bihar. This decision marks a reversal of the previous rule that restricted applicants with Bihar domicile to apply for teaching positions in the State’s Government-run schools. With the new policy, candidates from any state can now be considered for teaching jobs in Bihar’s Government schools.
The state cabinet in Bihar on May 2 approved a proposal to recruit 1.78 lakh teachers for primary, middle, and upper classes in Government schools. The proposal included the recruitment of 85,477 primary teachers, 1,745 middle school teachers, and 90,804 teachers for upper classes.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the recruitment process. A senior official from the State Government has mentioned that they expect the recruitment process to be completed by the end of this year.
However, it is worth noting that several petitions have been filed against the new recruitment rules, which state that all future appointments of school teachers will be carried out through an examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
In a notice issued by the Bihar Education Department, strict action has been warned against the candidates participating in the protest. It is written in the notice that action should be taken if a case of violation of the code of conduct comes to the fore in clause-19 of the Rules 2020 for agitating against the School Teacher’s Appointment Rules 2023.
Along with this, it should also be ensured that the videography of the protest around the office is done so that it is easy to identify the case of violation of the code of conduct.
On the other hand, Bihar’s Education Minister Professor Chandrashekhar says that this will improve the education of Government schools in Bihar and the education level will be good. According to a report, the minister has even said that there are less qualified people in the state.
After allowing candidates from other states to apply for Bihar teacher recruitment, there is anger among the candidates of the state. Students are protesting against the Education Minister. They say that the Government is killing the rights of the students of the state, injustice is being done to them. The students say that the Bihar Government is deliberately doing atrocities with the students here. The Government is playing with the future of the youth.
