Once again a shocking case of false identity trap has come to light from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun where, Mohammad Salik with two Aadhar cards, posed as Lucky Rana, watched film, ‘The Kerala Story’ with a Hindu woman saying Muslims are bad as they pose and trap innocent Hindu girls for conversion. Later fixed his engagement with the woman and now stands exposed due to an online money transfer. Following the woman’s complaint the police arrested him under charges of rape and fraud.

A First Information Report (FIR) in this case has been registered at the Cantt police station of the Dehradun district on June 16. The true identity of the accused man Mohammad Salik came to light after he transferred money to his landlord in the Panditwadi area of the city through an online money transfer application.

This landlord was renting a house to Salik assuming and confirming through his identity card that he is Lucky Rana son of Dinesh Rana, a resident of Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. Contrary to his identity proofs, the name of the man showed on the online money transfer application as Mohammad Salik. The landlord find it suitable to inform the police.

The matter which started form a fake identity plot for accommodation in a city that is new to him, ended up being a ‘Love Jihad’ scandal. This man Lucky Rana not only posed as a Hindu to rent a flat for himself, but he had also posed as a Hindu to trap and marry a Hindu woman.

The shocker did not stop there as the accused man was joined by his younger brother to trap the younger sister of the victim Hindu woman, who also undergo a physical relationship with Salik.

Salik worked as a junior advocate in the Dehradun court for a year. Meanwhile, his younger brother is studying MBBS in Bangladesh. These brothers trapped the two Hindu women with full planning as they bad-mouthed Muslims, they tied Kalawa, and even took the girls to watch the film, ‘The Kerala Story’ with them.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dalip Singh Kunwar said that on the complaint of the girl, the Cantt Police arrested Mohammad Salik alias Lucky Rana. Salik is a resident of Mohalla Chashrin area, near Jhalu bus stand, district Bijnor.

The complainant woman told the police that almost seven months ago she met a man through Instagram, named Lucky Rana. The relationship which started with a friendship turned into love and they also had a physical relationship, as per the reports.

During their frequent meetings, Salik brought his younger brother, who too posed as a Hindu and lured the younger sister of the victim in his fake love trap. The younger brother also captured intimate photos and clips of the younger sister of the victim.

During the period of seven months, Salik introduced the victim woman to his parents who too posed as Hindus. Subsequently, the marriage of the two was fixed. With the consent of both families, the date of engagement was scheduled for October 4, this year.

When Salik paid the money to his landlord he reached the Cantt police station, the police later called him and interrogated him, however, he was reluctant and tried concealing the truth. Later the police did a background check of the man and tracked his family in Bijnor, from this investigation the truth was crystal clear.

The police also found out about his relationship with a Hindu woman, soon police informed the woman’s family about Lucky’s true identity.  Consequently, on the girl’s complaint, the Police registered a case against the accused for cheating and rape, leading to his arrest.

The victim woman as per the reports told the police that, the accused Salik took them (she and her sister) to watch the film, ‘The Kerla Story’ while watching the film he said, “This is how boys are trapping innocent Hindu girls these days”.

Further, the girl added that Salik also mortgaged the jewellery of the girl in a finance company and kept one lakh rupees with himself.

The Station House Officer, Sampurnanand Gairola said that Aadhaar cards of two different names were received from the accused. However, both identity cards had similar photos. One Aadhaar card was in the purse of the accused, while the other Aadhaar card was found in mobile data. The name on the original card is Mohammad Salik while Lucky Rana is inscribed on the second Aadhar card. Additionally, both the address and the Aadhaar card number were the same.

Following the registration of the FIR the Hindu activists including members of Bajrang Dal protested outside the police station and also raised slogans like, “Love Jihad Band Karo”.

Notably, since the Purola incident, there have been mass protests against the interfaith fake love traps, commonly referred to as ‘Love Jihad’.

Notably, on May 26, a Hindu minor girl was abducted by two youths, one of whom is from the Muslim community. The two accused have been identified as Uved Khan and Jitendra Saini. One of the accused owns a cycle repairing shop and the other one is engaged in making handmade blankets in the main market area of Purola.

Uved Khan trapped a Hindu girl studying in class 9, who is the daughter of one of the local shopkeepers in the market. He promised her marriage and then abducted her with the help of the other accused to the Vikasnagar region of the state. The duo were caught and taken into police custody.

Following the abduction attempt, there was a rage among the local people of the town and they had staged widespread protest across the city.

As many as 40 shops in the hill town of Purola in Uttarkashi, 145 km from Dehradun, remained closed following the crime. The people enraged by the incident also demanded the shutdown of shops owned by Islamists and outsiders in the main market. They also demanded verification of non-local businessmen who run their businesses in rented premises in Purola. They also took out procession beating drums and shouting slogans against “love jihad band karo” in all these towns.

Following the abduction locals launched massive protests and demanded the shutdown of the shops owned by outsiders, the majority of whom are from the minority community. The locals demanded police verification of the outsiders before lending them the shops.

In protest to rising cases of Love Jihad in Uttarakhand, a maha panchayat was called in Dehradun, however, section 144 was imposed and the maha panchayat was called off.

The Chief Minister said, “We have appealed to all the people to maintain peace.” He said that if anyone tries to vitiate the atmosphere, the law will take its course. “In the incidents that have happened so far, the administration has acted properly. If someone is guilty then the law will work against him. No one should take the law into their hands,” he added.

Earlier, the maha panchayat at Dehradun was called following a meeting of the Ulema and some responsible people under the chairmanship of city Qazi Maulana Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi at Jama Masjid in Doon’s Paltan Bazar.

People from the Muslim community hailing from Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Haridwar, Roorkee, Haldwani and Udhamsinghnagar were scheduled to participate in the maha panchayat, the city Qazi had said earlier.

The city is under curfew as section 144 has been imposed in the town following the massive protests and scuffle between two groups in Purola. The town is under curfew till June 19.
