A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district on June 2 morning, officials said.

According to officials, the encounter was reported in the Dassal forest area of the district. “A terrorist was killed in the encounter in Rajouri’s Dassal forest area,” Army officials said.

“A search operation in the area is underway,” they added.

More details are awaited.

On June 1, two terrorists associated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested along with arms and ammunition in Baramulla.

According to the police, the security forces had placed a Mobile Vehicle Checkpoint (MVCP) at the Frestihar Waripora crossing after specific information regarding the movement of terrorists in Frestihar Kreeri village was received.

The terrorists tried to flee while noticing the checkpoint but were apprehended by the security forces at Frestihar Kreeri village. The arrested persons were identified as Suhail Gulzar and Waseem Ahmad Pata, said police.

A case was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act at Kreeri police station.

Police recovered two Chinese Pistols, two pistol magazines and fifteen live pistol rounds from the accused.

On May 31, the Indian Army detained three terrorists in Poonch near the India-Pakistan border.

According to an official statement, Army launched a joint operation with Jammu & Kashmir Police on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector on the intervening night of May 30-31 and intercepted 3-4 terrorists while they were attempting to cross the fence taking advantage of bad weather and heavy rain. “After tracking the movement at about 1.30 hours, a well-sited Indian Army ambush on challenging them was fired upon, and in the retaliatory firefight, some terrorists have been hit,” the statement said.

The security forces then cordoned off the area, and a search operation was launched.

“Blood trails have been found. Three terrorists with some weapons and war-like stores, including one IED (improvised explosive device) and Narco, have been apprehended. One Indian Army soldier was injured in the ensuing firing and has been evacuated,” the statement further mentioned.

Army recovered 10 kg IED from the terrorists.
