Mohd Sahil who killed Sakshi this week was seen wearing Kalawa, he is not the only Muslim man using Hindu identity or religious practices to fool Hindu girls, here is a list of 30 such cases
On May 29, 16-year-old Sakshi was butchered by her alleged boyfriend after she refused to continue her relationship with him. Sakshi found out that the 20-year-old man was not Sunny but Mohammad Sahil. It was a brutal murder as Sahil stabbed the victim multiple times and then crushed her head with a cement boulder.
Pictures of Sahil wearing a Kalwa and Rudraksha mala are circulated widely on the internet. Pictures like these are common in circulation as a number of Muslim men have done this.
Watching these pictures one question comes to mind and that is, Was it the only case where a Muslim man hide his identity using Kalawa or worshipped idols to look like a Hindu, trapped a Hindu woman and got her converted?
Well, this correspondent brings stories of thirty such women who have been fooled by Islamists to conversion or are killed or threatened to get killed if they refused to adhere to their demands. Some found victims found the truth about their religious identity in the beginning while others found years after the marriage.
Case–1: In February 2023, I reported a case from Haridwar, the holy city in Uttarakhand where Azhar Ahmed posed as Rahul to marry a Hindu woman and after nine years of their marriage, the victim found she was living with a Muslim man. The truth came out after she accidentally found an Aaadhar Card at home. It had her husband’s (Rahul’s) photograph but the name mentioned was Azhar Ahmad. A First Information Report (number—41/2023) was registered at the Kankhal police station on 30 January 2023.
Notably, Rahul and Sonia had married each other in a temple. Rahul used to wear kalawa, put Tilak and even visited temple, accepted prashad from Ganga Arti, and allowed the woman to keep Karwachauth fast as well.

Case–2: This correspondent covered a case back in December 2022 from the Siwan district of Bihar where a Muslim man posed a Punjabi Hindu to trap a woman and later left her to lure another Hindu woman. The accused was identified as Kaleemulla, he posed as Sameer Khanna. He got the victim woman, Ratna converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha Khatun. A First Information Report (number–324/2022) was registered at the Hussainganj police station.

Case–3: This correspondent reported a case back in July 2022 where a woman, Rachna Solanki filed a police complaint against her husband Amit Kumar Singh who was actually Ikrar Qureshi. She found the truth nine years after their marriage. Ikrar had two Adhar Cards and had his name printed on the wedding invitation as Amit Kumar. The first information report (number 354/2022) was registered at Jagdishpura police station of Agra district in UP on 18 June 2022. The couple did Diwali pooja together and went to various temples. Rachna says she is an ardent follower of Lord Hanuman. Amit accompanied her to temples.

Case–4: On March 2023, Organiser reported a case from Haridwar, the holy city in Uttarakhand where Mohammad Shoaib posed as Sachin to trap a Hindu woman from Harijan community. Later forced her to convert. A First Information Report (number–108/2023) was registered at the Pathri police station of the Haridwar District on March 1. The man asked the woman to remove the OmM symbol tattooed on her hands.

Case–5: In March 2022, Organiser reported a similar case from Uttar Pradesh where Rashid posed as Raju Mishra to trap a Hindu woman. Rashid had two Adhar Cards with these names, told the victim. The woman was later converted to Islam and her name was changed to Mahi Khan. After converting the woman and exploiting her sexually Rashid left her saying, he has converted a Kaafir Hindu to Islam which is equal to ‘Ek Haj ka Sawab’.

Case–6: In April 2023, Organiser reported another case from Bazpur, Uttarakhand where Liaqat posed as Samar to trap a Hindu woman Jashoda. After torturing her he made he convert to Islam. A First Information Report (number–185/2023) was registered at the Bazpur police station of the Udham Singh Nagar district. The woman belonged to the Brahmin caste.
Case–7: In May 2022, this correspondent covered a case from the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh where a Hindu woman underwent conversion and Halala after she was trapped by a man named Mohammad Imran, who posed as Raju Jatav. The first information report (FIR) in the case (number 0/2022) was registered at a woman’s police station in MP’s Gwalior district on 23 April. The woman identified as Hemlata Joshi told me that, Raju married her at Sheetla Mata temple in Gwalior, as per Hindu rituals. “They would tell me that worshipping murtis is worthless and only Allah can show the path to Jannat,” she said.

Case–8: In June 2022, this correspondent covered a case from the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh. Here a woman doctor claimed that the accused, Nehal Khan posed as a Hindu to trap and sexually exploit her. She told me that, Nehal lived like a Hindu with her. He visited temples with her and followed all rituals and festivals. It was difficult to believe that he was Muslim. Nehal started forcing Priya to convert to Islam. He told her, “Convert right away. Soon when this Modi-Yogi government loses power, the Taliban will take over this country and everyone in India will convert to Islam.” Priya confronted him by saying, “How will they come to our country? How can you say this being a citizen of this country? Does this mean you support terrorism?”

Case–9: In December 2021, this correspondent covered a case from the Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Here the accused forced his pregnant Hindu woman to convert to Islam despite marrying at an Arya Samaj Temple. As per the wedding certificate, the accused Faheem Qureshi converted and became Raj Arya to marry the woman Pratibha Soni. An FIR (number 1082/2021) filed at City Kotwali police station in Sultanpur on 27 November was registered in this case. “He told me that Yogi sarkar is going after Muslim men marrying Hindu women, so it was best for both of us to marry in a temple as Hindus,” told Pratibha.
Case–10: In February 2023, a case was reported from the Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh where one Abdul Khalid posed as a Hindu named Munna Yadav to lure a Hindu woman into a relationship with him. A First Information Report (number—56/2023) was registered at Salon police station of Raebareli district on 4 February.

Case–11: In February 2023, a Hindu woman Jaya Devi, filed a complaint against her husband Sandeep who turned out to be Zakir Ali. After three years of their marriage, Jaya has found the truth about him. The First Information Report in the case (number—41/2023) was registered at the Amroha Dehat police station on 1 February 2023. A Hindu activist associated with the case Sanskar Katyal said that Jaya told them that Zakir had his ears pierced, used to go to the temple, and would celebrate every occasion like any other Hindu, and so it was shocking for her to find that he is Muslim.
Case–12: In January 2023, a case was reported from the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh where a Dalit Hindu woman found her husband was a Muslim 11 years after their marriage. The accused was identified as Sadiq Hussain, he kept the woman in his captivity for 11 long years. A First Information Report (number—007/2023) was registered at the Cantt police station of Bareilly district on 5 January.

Case–13: A Case was reported in December 2022, where a Hindu woman accused her husband Irfan of posing as Rahul to trap her before marriage. The victim woman, Madhu Vishwakarma converted to Islam and became Simran Begum filed a FIR (number—984/2022) at the Izzatnagar police station on 29 November 2022.

Case–14: In December 2022, a case was reported from Meerut where one Muzzamil introduced himself as Shivam to trap a Hindu woman into a love relationship. The victim said they were in a relationship for two years where he sexually exploited her on the pretext of marriage. He used to wear Kalawa and visit the temple, said the victim.

Case–15: In December 2022, a case was reported from the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh where one Sonu Ansari posed as Sonu to trap a Dalit woman. As per the press note released by the police, the victim’s father in his complaint letter given to the police on 21 November 2022 said that Sonu Ansari, a resident of the railway colony area, raped his daughter on 20 November.

Case–16: In November 2022, a case was reported from the capital city of Uttar Pradesh Lucknow where Mohammad Salman posed as Shyam to trap her into a relationship and later started forcing her to convert. The police statement as available in the Hindi media said, “Accused Salman threatened the victim of killing her family members if she refused to go with him. She left home, late at night on 13 November. The family members registered a complaint on 14 November. The police traced the mobile phone of the accused and the victim and located them in Haryana”.
Case–17: In October 2022, a case was reported from the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh where three Muslim men upon raping a Hindu woman said, this will give them a place in Jannat. A first information report (number 491/2022) was registered in the case at Tukoganj police station on 29 September 2022.
The victim’s statement in the media reads, “Afzal and Prince stayed in the room while Arbaaz and Sayyid stood outside, talking. They asked me to work according to them. I started crying. They took off my clothes. I said I was pregnant to which Afzal, laughing, said this was very common in their religious community. Sex with a Hindu woman gives them a place in paradise, he said”. His exact words were – ‘Hindu Ladki ke sath sex karlo to Jannat naseeb hoti hai’.
Case–18: In September 2022, this correspondent covered a case from the Kota district of Rajasthan. Here, Ali Hussain posed as Bunty, who worked at a mobile repair shop. The victim found the truth after, one day she found his wallet lying on the table. It had two identical identity cards with different names on them. One showed him as Bunty while the other showed him as Ali Hussain. A First Information Report (no: 371/22) was registered at the Mahaveer Nagar police station of the Kota district.

Case–19: A case was reported from the Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh where a man hide his religious identity and marital status to trap a Hindu woman and later forced her to convert to Islam. The accused Faizal Ahmed posed as Atharva, to trap the Hindu woman Seema. The man also married the woman at an Arya Samaj temple. A First Information Report (number 692/2022) was registered at Chinhat police station of Lucknow district in Uttar Pradesh on 3 September 2022.

Case–20: In June 2022, a case was reported from the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh where a Hindu woman filed a case against one Mohammad Sohail Shah for posing as Sourav. The first information report (number 258/2022) was registered on 5 June 2022 at Kotwali Dehat police station of the Saharanpur district in UP. The victim Mamta Singh said he put a mangalsutra around her neck and vermilion in her hair claiming the marriage was conducted.

Case–21: In June 2022, a case was reported from the Harda district of Madhya Pradesh where accused Shahbaz Seth posed as Rahul Gurjar to trap the woman Durgesh Nandini Chouhan. The First Information Report (number 00/2022) was registered at Timarni police station of Harda district on 27 May 2022. It was transferred to the Sirali station the next day, and a fresh FIR (number 164/2022) was registered there on 28 May 2022. The victim told, Shahbaz said he had to fake his identity because he wasn’t sure if she would have agreed to a romantic relationship if she knew about his real identity.

Case–22: In a similar case reported back in September 2022, where an accused was convicted under the Uttar Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act. The accused was booked for concealing his religious identity to trap a minor girl in a relationship for the purpose of her conversion. He was identified as Mohammad Afzal and posed as Armaan Kohli and a Lord Shiva devotee to trap the 16-year-old girl in a relationship. The district court of Amroha sentenced Afzal to five years in prison with a fine of Rs 40,000.
Case–23: A case was reported back in 2021, from the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh where a Hindu woman eloped with a man assuming he was Hindu while she was a minor. The man posed as Rajesh Yadav but turned out to be Abdul Mobin. An FIR (number 405/2021) was filed on November 30. On 25 December 2018, she gave birth to a son. After childbirth, Abdul’s behaviour changed for the worse. He began to beat her up over trivial matters. He prohibited her from going out of the house. He also stopped her from offering prayers as per her Hindu customs.

Case–24: A case was reported back in November 2021, where the victim, a Dalit woman said, ‘I am a victim of Love Jihad’. The woman met a man who introduced himself as Vishal Thakur but turned out to be Nawajis-bin-Shams. Following the victim’s complaint, A FIR (number 235/2021) was filed at Aliganj Police Station on 6 November.

Case–25: A case was reported back in September 2021, where a woman, a mother of three eloped with a man from Telangana assuming he was a Hindu but turned out to be a Muslim. The first information report (FIR) in the case (number 339/2021) was filed at Friends Colony police station in UP’s Etawah district on 5 September. The accused man posed as Raja Pandit, but in actuality, he was Mohammed Ameen.

Case–26: In January 2022, a case was reported from Uttar Pradesh where a Nepalese man living in India on fraud documents showing himself to be an Uttar Pradesh native, killed his wife Shiva Vishwakarma with his first wife. Shiva Vishwakarma converted to Islam and married Mohammad Yaseen eight years ago in Nepal. Yaseen was accompanied by his wife Shahar Bano in this crime. The first information report (FIR) was filed the same evening at the Para police station of Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow district (number 33/2022).
Case–27: In July 2021, a case was reported from Uttar Pradesh where one Intaak posed as ‘Aman Sharma’ and entered into sexual relations with a Hindu woman on false promises of marriage. The FIR (number 404) was filed on 2 July 2021, and names Naresh Kumar as the complainant. Police also found that he was already married when he entered into a relationship with the woman; his wife’s Aadhaar card showed her husband’s name as Vasim Ahmad.

Case–28: A per a case reported back in June 2020, from the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh where Mohammad Waseem posed as Dinesh Rawat to trap Hindu women. When asked why he hid these details, he said he had done so to teach people like her a lesson. Based on the complaint, an FIR (number 154/2020) was filed on 6 June 2020 at Mundali Police Station. Waseem had two Adhar cards, and two Facebook IDs and lived almost like a Hindu.
Case–29: In 2020, a case was reported where, Shamshad, who initially posed as Amit Gujjar, entered into a relationship with Priya, began to live with her, but murdered her and her daughter when she became too demanding. He buried both in his own room.
Case–30: A case was reported back in December 2022, where one Anwar allegedly posed as a Hindu named Anu to befriend and later sexually exploit a Hindu woman. Anu may sound like his nickname but he did pose as a Hindu man by putting ‘tilak’ and ‘kalawa’, as per the woman. A First Information Report (number—1004/2022) on the matter was registered at the Heera Nagar police station of the Indore Urban City on 1 December 2022.
There are some cases out of hundreds where Muslim men have used tricks to pose as Hindus and convert them to Islam. There will be a hundred cases out there which never get reported. Since last month there has been a massive debate around ‘Love Jihad’ being real or fake, and whether the makers of the film, ‘Kerala Story’ should be credited for it. The cases compiled above are real-life cases that no media will ever show.
Out of the thirty cases mentioned above only one accused was convicted by a district court in Uttar Pradesh. States like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and others have a dedicated law in place to curb such crime, how about the states which are still living in denial mode, claiming there is no ‘Love Jihad’.
