Nazru Khan killed his live-in partner in Jaipur, and yet again the incident shook everyone. The murder was so brutal that the victim’s mother went into a state of shock for more than ten days. Nazru attacked the woman by his knees breaking six ribs and blasting her liver. She was damaged so much internally that more than two units of blood was accumulated in her stomach. Shockingly, Nazru has no solid reason to commit this murder, beating this woman was his everyday routine.

The victim woman has been identified as Rukhsana, a resident of Kakod village of Tonk district in Rajasthan. The incident took place on April 30, 2023.

Following Rukhsana’s shocking demise, her mother Munni Devi registered a police complaint against the accused Nazru Khan at Malpura Gate police station of Jaipur City on May 1. In the First Information Report (number–259/2023) Munni informed the police about Nazru who was in a live-in relationship with her daughter for almost two years.

After thrashing her Nazru admitted Rukhsana to Jaipuriya Hospital and left. She died of his attack and action should be taken against him.

On May 1, the same day of the complaint the police arrested Nazru. He has been booked under IPC section 302 (murder).

Organiser has accessed the FIR and tried calling the police station, the went unanswered

Munni Devi told Organiser in a telephonic interview on May 13 that Ruksana was married to Raees ten years ago, she has four children from that marriage. Six years back, her husband who used to work at a stone mine died.

After his death, Rukhsana moved to her parent’s house in Tonk, stayed there for one and a half years and then shifted to Jaipur for work.

In Jaipur, Rukhsana worked at a Sanganer factory and used to earn eight thousand per month. She also took her children with her. One day she received a random call on her mobile, it was Nazru Khan. She ignored him but turned out he used to work at the same factory as Rukhsana. He forced her to be friends with him, and later he learned about Rukhsana’s husband and children. Nazru was also into the garment business.

‘Nazru (24) son Nizamuddin Khan was 6 years younger than my daughter Rukhsana (30). Don’t know where he got her number. He started calling again and again. When Ruksana refused, he said I like your voice and I like you too’.

Nazru assured her that he will marry Rukhsana and will also accept her children. Believing him she accepted his proposal.

Nazru belongs to the Gaddi Muslim Jati while Rukhsana belongs to the Fakir Jati. Gaddis are considered lower in terms of caste than Fakirs and hence Rukhsana’s family was against this alliance.

In northern India, Gaddis are associated with cattle farming. The Gaddi are Muslims of the Sunni sect, following various denominations such as Hanafi, Deobandi, and even local Folk Islam. They are an endogamous community, practising clan and village exogamy in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (i.e. not marrying within the clan).

However, Fakir is a Muslim Sufi ascetic in the Middle East and South Asia and the Faqirs were wandering Dervishes teaching Islam and living on alms. In India, they are a community of religious mendicants who belonged to a number of Sufi orders. Over time their descendants have formed a distinct endogamous community.

Munni recalled instances of how Nazru would thrash Rukhsana every now and then. He used to record everything and send it to her family. He was obsessed with beating and recording the act on camera. They would receive multiple video clips of the same.

When Nazru was behind Rukhsana, Munni talked to him she said, ‘You do not belong to our Biradri, If I were to re-marry my daughter I will get a groom from my own Biradri, stay away from her. But he was unstoppable,’ said Munni.

She believed in him and moved in, she wanted to be sure before marriage. For one year he behaved well, looked after the children, cooked food for them and did everything. But then he changed. He started beating her, she would have marks on her body all over.

Nazru managed to get Rukhsana’s signature on a paper, he tell everyone that they are married however, Rukhsana said, she never signed a paper. Nazru had recordings and pictures of Rukhsana, he used to blackmail her against those, said Munni.

In the starting when Nazru used to beat Rukhsana, she would not tell her parents but later on, she would say, allowing Nazru into her life was her biggest mistake. She tried threatening him with a police complaint however, he easily get rid of those. In response, he threatened Rukhsana of killing her entire family.

Rukhsana has six sisters and a brother.

On April 30, Nazru conspired to take Rukhsana away from Jaipur for a bike ride. She agreed. Nazru also created an Instagram reel while going on a bike ride. There was a voice in the background of the reel – carrying a Bollywood song.

Then he took her to the dense forest of Nimodia. There he brutally beat up Ruksana. Hit her ribs with his knees. Then he got scared when Ruksana’s condition deteriorated a lot due to the fight. In a rush, he took Ruksana to a private clinic and told them that she had met with a road accident. Ruksana was referred to Jaipuria Hospital from the clinic. There he had to inform Rukhsana’s family by the time Munni arrived at the hospital, Rukhsana had died.

Her postmortem reports revealed Rukhsana’s ribs 3 on each side were broken due to a knee attack. Her Liver was torn. Her chest and abdomen had several internal injuries. There was so much bleeding inside that more than two units of blood accumulated in the stomach. More than 18 serious injuries were made and countless minor injuries were marked in her body.

Nazru was arrested by the police on May 1. During interrogation, he confessed to badly assaulting Rukhsana. He told the police that he suspected that Rukhsana had started talking to another man on the phone. On the basis of suspicion, he killed Rukhsana.

After arrest, Nazru threatened Munni Devi saying he will soon be out on bail and that he will see them. Munni fears for the children of Rukhsana Riyan(15), Ayaan(12), Aryan(8) and Ahil(6). After Raees, Rukhsana’s previous husband died his family cut all ties with them.

Rukhsana’s father works as a Lohar and her mother often works as a labourer. They do not have enough money to look after the children, it was Rukhsana who managed to earn some money in Jaipur.

She said Nazru and people like him are fanatics they treat women as their entertainment source, he treated her like an animal, and god knows what pleasure he gets in beating her. She curses the day Rukhsana met this man.

She said, he did not love her, he was just using her on some days he would say ‘I will marry you’ and on other days he said, ‘I will keep her as mistress’, said Munni.
