On May 8, 2023, the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, will inaugurate the Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre and lay down the foundation stone for the Centre for Cyber Operations and Security in the city of Chandigarh.
The Heritage Centre is built with “state-of-the-art technology” and is the IAF’s first Heritage Centre. The exhibits in it will be a source of inspiration for coming generations and display the indomitable spirit of the Indian Air Force.
The IAF Heritage Center is expected to attract many visitors from all across India.
On May 7, 2023, Rajnath Singh approved posting lady officers to the Territorial Army along the Line of Control (LOC) and as staff officers at the TA (Territorial Army) Headquarters and Directorate General of the Territorial Army at New Delhi due to organisational requirements.
The main aim behind this policy is to enhance the scope of women officers and meet their professional aspirations. The lady officers can now serve and train under the same conditions as their male counterparts having a wide scope of appointments and units.
In 2019, the Territorial Army commenced commissioning women officers in the Ecological Task Force Units, TA Oil Sector units and TA Railway Engineering Regiment.
On the basis of the experience gained during this period, the government has decided to further extend the scope of employment for women officers in the TA (Territorial Army).
The Territorial Army is based on a ‘citizen-soldier concept.’ The enrolled officers undergo annual training on foundational military skills while remaining gainfully employed in civilian life.
