Jharkhand: 60-year-old women killed in yet another IED blast in West Singhbhum

A day after a strong Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion that rocked the Dantewada and killed as many as ten personnel of District Reserve Guards (DRG) along with a civilian driver, a 60-year-old woman has been killed in another IED blast triggered by the Maoist in the forest of Jamargadha under Goilakora police station limits of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on April 28.

As per the reports, the incident occurred around 7 am when the deceased woman was collecting Tendu Patta leaves in the nearby forest when she accidentally stepped over a pressure IED planted by the Ultras and died on the spot; learning about the incident, a CRPF team was immediately dispatched to the location which later took out the women’s body to the nearby hospital with the help of the locals.

The deceased has been identified as Gangi Surin, a resident of Patahatu Toga village under Goilkora police station limits; it’s been reported that the woman was accompanied by two other women who merely escaped the deadly explosion.

It is to be noted that earlier, as many as four IEDs had been unearthed by the security forces from the same region on April 19; it was then reported that a joint team of CRPF and district police were out on a combing operation during which a few IEDs were found to be buried near Maradiri village under Goilkera police station limits of West Singhbhum following which as many as four IEDs weighing around 2 kg each were recovered.

It is worth mentioning here that the security forces have launched a massive anti-naxal operation in the erstwhile Maoist-dominated Kolhan region of the district since January in which at least five people have died, and more than a dozen personnel, including a few civilians, have been so far injured in IEDs explosions.

Let us tell you that the Maoist has frequently used pressure IEDs to harm the search operation parties in the Maoist-affected forest regions, which several times led to the death of security personnel and the locals visiting the forest to collect forest produce.
