The brother-in-law of slain mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, Akhlaq Ahmed, was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh Health Department on April 25. He was posted as a senior Government doctor in Meerut. Akhlaq Ahmed is accused of providing shelter to Guddu Muslim, a murder suspect in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Akhlaq Ahmed has been suspended for his alleged involvement in unethical activities, according to Dr Akhilesh Mohan, Meerut’s chief medical officer. As a paediatrician, he worked at the Bhavanpur Community Health Centre in Meerut.

According to Brijesh Singh, Superintendent of Police, STF, on April 1, Akhlaq was captured by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) from Nauchandi and taken to Prayagraj.

According to reports, after the murder of Umesh Pal on February 24, the accused Guddu Muslim arrived in Meerut on March 5 and left for Delhi on the same day.

Akhlaq not only provided them with refuge but also provided monetary help and explosives. The cops have also recovered CCTV footage of the same.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has suspended the accused doctor, who is currently lodged in Prayagraj’s Naini Jail.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “The doctor in question (Akhlaq Ahmed) not only tarnished the image of the State Government but also brought a bad name to his department”.
He added that doctors or Government employees who violated Government service rules would not be spared. He stated that providing high-quality health care to the public is the Government’s primary goal.
