My Son Temple Complex site is the most romantic place especially at the time of sunset. The veil of purple light covers this site and the ancient ruins and the wisps of cold air rise from the mossy walls every evening, whispering stories of the past endured and experiences by these towers. They are the witness to the rise and the fall of Champa Kingdom, glory of Hinduism that flourished in and around them long long ago and the American war that destroyed almost everything in the recent past.
King Bhadravarman 1 began building them in the 4th century. God Shiva has ruled this place ever since. The bas reliefs on the façade of these towers have many evidences of Linga and Yoni. Hindus always believed in locating the abodes of their Gods at the chosen places. Agamas and many ancient texts have given descriptions of the ideal places for locating temples. These places then become teerth Khetras. Sulaha Mountains on the East, Mahaparvat Mountain in the South, Kusala Mountains on the West with their dense forest at that time, were the home to these towers.
sCham art and architecture has left its mark on the history of Vietnam with its meaning, perfection and beauty. These Cham towers reflect fully the history of Cham culture from its initial period of Indian influence to one of adapting and giving rise to local features. The changing architecture of these towers is the reflection of the interaction with neighbouring regions. These towers are being studied by French researchers intrinsically for their artistic values and brick construction technology. These can also be researched by Indian researchers for understanding Hindu origin and transformations thereafter on architecture as well as on society.
