New Delhi: The daughter of Late BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Bansuri Swaraj, entered into active politics on March 24, as she was appointed as co-convener of the legal cell of the Delhi BJP.

New BJP chief of the Delhi unit, Virendra Sachdeva, in his first appointment after taking over as full-time state president, appointed Bansuri Swaraj as co-convener of the legal cell. Virendra Sachdeva said Bansuri Swaraj’s appointment would come into force with immediate effect and hoped that she would strengthen the BJP.

For her part, Bansuri Swaraj thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders for reposing confidence in her.

“I am grateful to the Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, J P Nadda ji, B L Santhosh, Virendra Sachdeva, @BJP4Delh and @BJP4India for giving me this opportunity to serve the party as the state co-convenor of the Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi State Legal Cell,” Bansuri Swaraj tweeted on Sunday.

Only daughter of Late Sushma Swaraj and a prominent lawyer and former Mizoram Governor, Swaraj Kaushal, Swaraj Bansuri practices law in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. Swaraj Kaushal was also a Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana for sometime.

Late Sushma Swaraj was a seasoned parliamentarian and had also served as Delhi Chief Minister for a brief period in 1998. Sushma Swaraj expired on Aug 6, 2019. She had health issues and stayed away from the electoral contest in the 2019 general elections.

Incidentally, Sushma Swaraj, who served as External Affairs Minister between 2014 and 2019, was only the second person to complete the five-year term as Minister of External Affairs after Jawaharlal Nehru.
