Jharkhand: Sub zonal commander of CPI Maoist held in Latehar; weapons, ammunition seized

Security forces in Jharkhand arrested a seasoned Maoist from Herhanj of Latehar on March 18; as per the reports acting on a tip-off, Latehar police have managed to nab a dreaded sub-zonal commander of the proscribed CPI Maoist.

The arrested commander has been identified as Chandan Khairwar aka Vaidyanath Singh aka Sanjeevan ji, of the outlawed outfit. It’s been reported that Chandan has been active in the banned organisation since long.

Briefing the media on the development, SP Latehar, Anjani Anjan said that “a sub-zonal commander identified as Chandan Khairwar of the CPI Maoist has been arrested from the Sikid area of Herhanj. Two Insas rifles, seven loaded magazines along with 370 live cartridges have been recovered from his possession.”

As many as 68 cases have been pending against the accused in different police stations of Jharkhand, for which a reward of Rs 10 lakh has already been announced on him, added SP Latehar.

It’s been reported that Chandan was planning to revive the outfit, which has been facing the backslash of the forces in the insurgency-hit regions of the mineral-rich State.
