On March 14, Bhartiya Janta Party’s (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Tejasvi Surya received the Best Debutant Parliamentarian Award at Lokmat’s Parliamentarian of the Year Award 2023, conducted in Delhi. Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind presented the Best Debutant Parliamentarian Award to Tejasvi Surya.

He is an RSS swayamsevak, lawyer and BJP MP from the Bengaluru South constituency. He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha at the age of 28. Furthermore, he has been the National President of the BJP’s Youth Wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, since 2020.

Lokmat’s Parliamentarian of the Year Awards are given to outstanding parliamentarians for their contributions to recognise and encourage positive work done every year. The Awards are divided into eight categories – four each from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The Awards were conceived in 2017, with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu conferring the award to the winners between 2017 and 2019. Notably, a distinguished jury headed by NCP President Sharad Pawar selects awardees.

Furthermore, past awardees include former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, Jaya Bachchan, Supriya Sule, Nishikant Dubey, Hema Malini, Bharti Pawar, Sushmita Dev, Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajni Patil.
