Imphal: Drugs and banned contraband manufacturing factory busted by Manipur police on March 9. Acting on a tip-off, a Manipur police team raided the house of one K Abdul Ali alias Raghu in the Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai area. The police team seized almost 1 kilogram of heroin, 936 grams of psychotropic opium, and 0.5 grams of brown sugar, after which Ali was arrested, police said.

Abdul Ali told the police during interrogation that he got the drugs from one Khuleibam Mahmuddin, who lives in the same area. Following this, the police team raided Muhamuddin’s house. But the drug mafia opened fire on the police team.

The police retaliated, and Muhmaddin was subsequently arrested. But his son Mohd Naaman Khuleibam, also involved in the drugs trade, fled the scene, police said.

A double-barrel gun and ammunition were seized from the house of Muhmaddin. The drug mafia later confessed that his son escaped with a large number of drugs that were produced at his home.

He also revealed that the Brown Sugar and Heroin seized from Khulakpam Abdul Ali were manufactured at his house. On house search, suspected Brown Sugar residue weighing 1.491 Kg and other utensils and lime weighing 28 Kg, allegedly used in manufacturing illegal drugs, were recovered.

The arrested persons and seized items were handed over to Andro police station for further investigation.
