Agartala: The ruling BJP is all set to retain power in the North Eastern state of Tripura. As the votes were counted, the ruling BJP was leading in 32 seats sealing the majority mark to form the next Government in Tripura.

The newly formed Tipra Motha Party is leading in 11 seats as of now. The regional party floated by the royal scion Pradyut Kishor Debbarma is the real gainer in the 2023 election, which was demanding a separate Tipraland state.

The coalition of CPI (M) and Congress is leading in 18 seats, where the CPI (M) in 12, Congress 6, and, as per the latest trends in the ongoing counting of votes for the Tripura Assembly on March 2.

According to the latest data shared by the Election Commission, Chief Minister Manik Saha has won from the Bardowali constituency by defeating Congress’s Asish Kumar Saha. BJP’s Jishnu Dev Varma is leading from Charilam against Congress’ Ashok Deb Barma, according to EC trends. Congress candidate from Agartala, Sudip Roy Barman, was leading BJP’s Papia Dutta by 3,668 votes. Independent candidate Kartush R Marak was leading in the Baghmara constituency against BJP’s Brigady Napak Marak by 904 votes.

According to the latest data shared by the Election Commission, Congress candidate from Agartala, Sudip Roy Barman, who joined the Congress after quitting from BJP, was leading BJP’s Papia Dutta by 3,668 votes.

The Election Commission made elaborate security arrangements to ensure a smooth counting process. A three-tier security arrangement has been made with the required deployment of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Tripura State Rifle (TRS) and Tripura Police. Sufficient security arrangements are there besides round-the-clock patrolling by 30 vehicles, which CRPF officers would be there.

It should be mentioned that the once arch rivals for years, Congress and CPIM, have stitched a pre-poll alliance to defeat the ruling BJP. But the counting shows that the people of Tripura have rejected the Congress left alliance.
While the BJP, which is looking to retain the power contested in alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tipra Motha, which is being seen as a kingmaker in case of a hung assembly scenario, emerged as an influential regional party floated by the royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma in 2021.

The BJP, which had never won a single seat in Tripura before 2018, stormed to power in the last election in alliance with IPFT and ousted the Left Front, which had been in power in the border state for 35 years since 1978.

The BJP contested 55 seats and its ally, IPFT, on six seats. But both allies had fielded candidates in the Ampinagar constituency in the Gomati district.

The Left contested 47 and Congress on 13 seats, respectively. Of the total 47 seats, the CPM contested 43 seats, while the Forward Bloc, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) contested one seat each. Meanwhile, in Nagaland, the NDPP- BJP coalition is all set to retain power by winning 42 seats in the 60 seats assembly. BJP is showing tremendous results by leading in 12 seats out of the 20 they contested.

In Meghalaya trend shows a probable hang assembly. But talks are on to form the next government by NPP, BJP and UDP.
