Guwahati: An Army officer has been arrested in Assam’s Tezpur for allegedly being involved in a murder case. Army public relation officer (PRO) Lt Colonel Amarinder Singh Walia was arrested from Tezpur based 4 Corp premises on February 24 for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 35 years old woman, whose body was found in the Sangsari area near Guwahati.

Amarinder Singh Walia was arrested from the 4th Corps Headquarters of the Tezpur Army Battalion by a team of Guwahati city police and the Tezpur police.

It may be mentioned that a woman’s body was recovered from Kamrup’s Changsari on February 15. The body was dumped near National Highway 31. Since then, the Changsari Police have launched search operations to nab those involved in the murder.

Amarinder Singh Walia is a resident of Punjab. He allegedly established love relations with the woman for a long time. The lady came to meet Lt Colonel Amarinder Singh Walia in Guwahati on February 14. A 4-year-old girl child, allegedly belonging to the victim, has been recovered from Howrah in Kolkata, Police sources said. But how the minor child reached Kolkata is a matter of investigation. Assam police are investigating the kidnapped angle of the case also.

The victim lady has been identified as Bandana Shree, who had come to Guwahati from Delhi on February 14 to meet Walia.

The 35-year-old woman’s body was wrapped in a big plastic bag and dumped in Kamrup’s Changsari on February 15 near National Highway 31.

Lt Colonel Walia Singh was a public relations officer in the 4 Corp of the Indian Army in Tezpur.
