Sankalp Diwas: Modi Government is committed to take back Pak-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), says Dr Jitendra Singh

"Due to the haste and indifference of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir(PoJK) is still under illegal occupation of Pakistan" said Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on February 22, 2023

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, while addressing a programme in New Delhi to mark the “Sankalp Divas”, commemorating the Parliament resolution on J&K which was unanimously passed on February 22, 1994 said, “The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru lost PoJK in haste, otherwise Pakistan would not have been able to continue its illegal occupation on a large area of J&K for over seven decades. Former PM Nehru had declared a one-sided ceasefire on Akashvani without taking the then Home Minister Sardar Patel and his Cabinet colleagues into confidence. At that time, the Indian Army was in a strong position and was able to free the illegal possession from Pakistan”.

Singh said, “BJP is committed to take back PoJK, and the entire country wants the same.” He further asserted that in 1994 Congress had enacted a Bill in the Parliament to withdraw the illegal occupation of J&K by Pakistan. At that time, all the members of the Parliament supported the then PV Narasimha Rao Government in this move. Congress had initiated this step in 1994, but due to a lack of strong willpower, Congress never considered taking any decisive step.

Dr Singh further added that “just as BJP made the dream of building Ram temple a reality, as Modi ji made possible the withdrawal of Article 370 and 35 A from J&K, in the same way, Pakistan’s unauthorised possession of important parts of J&K, only the Modi Government would retain the possession.

Regarding Congress, he said, “whether it is Ram Mandir, removal of Article 370, whether it is to bring back PoJK, Congress only passed resolutions, while BJP makes its nationalist proposals come true.” Apart from this, Singh said that before 2014, the BJP cadre refrained from travelling in J&K, and that they were detained.

In 1953, Syama Prasad Mukherjee had dared take a yatra to J&K, and the Congress had put him in jail, and he died mysteriously after four months. The Union Government has taken vital steps to end terrorism in J&K. This is why now Congress workers are also travelling here without fear and rejoicing, courtesy Modi Government’s concerted initiatives.

Hitting out at the previous governments, Dr Jitendra accused them of appeasement due to which the problem of Kashmir had persisted for a long time.

“For BJP, the unfinished agenda of J&K is to retrieve back PoJK from Pakistan and this is not only our commitment to the Indian nation and the people of India, but also to our brothers and sisters living in PoJK who have been subjected to the most inhuman conditions,” he further said.

Addressing the programme, Rajya Sabha Member and former Uttar Pradesh DGP, Brij Lal said, “The work done by the present Modi Government by removing Article 370 from J&K has made the 1994 parliamentary resolution seem possible.”

Brij Lal accused the Congress Government of promoting terrorism by withdrawing stringent laws for political gains. He expressed his shock that Kashmiri Pandits were subjected to inhuman treatment and atrocities, but the candle march gang kept silent.

Mahendra Mehta, convener of Jammu Kashmir People’s Forum, appreciated the efforts of the Modi Government for the good of every person of J&K by revealing the historical facts of Pakistan’s illegitimate occupied part.
