Nagaland: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on February 20 assured the people of Nagaland that the NDPP-BJP Government, after returning to power post-February 27 polls, will resolve Naga political problem as well as issues concerning the development-starved Eastern Nagaland.
“Our aim is to make peace talks successful and solve the Naga political problem quickly,” Amit Shah said at an election rally in Mon, the hub of Konyak tribes.
“Whatever is needed, like extra-budgetary allocations, more power to council, equal development, the NDPP-BJP govt will work on it,” Amit Shah said. The Home Minister assured the people of expeditiously bringing the Naga peace talks to a successful end.
“The NDPP-BJP coalition will form government in Nagaland after polls. We will solve all problems of the state,” Amit Shah said.
“It is my first visit to Mon town, and I will be halting for the night with the people and go back,” he said amid applause by the large gathering.
The campaign by Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma turned out to be a great booster for NDPP leader and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
The Chief Minister is under attack from various quarters and senior politicians such as S C Jamir on various fronts.
“Under Rio sahab leadership (netritey mein) the NDA govt will solve all problems of Eastern Nagaland,” Amit Shah said, addressing the rally on Mon.
Amit Shah said the Modi Government has started working for peace and development in the northeast.
He said the centre has worked hard and brought in solutions to long pending issues of Reangs, Bodos and Karbi issues.
“I want to assure you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under his leadership the Union Home Ministry is aware of the emotions of Naga people and will strive to bring solution by keeping intact the respect of the Naga people,” Amit Shah said.
The Home Minister also said the ENPO threats to boycott polls were based on “genuine reason”.
Addressing an election rally at Pughoboto, Assam Chief Minister Sarma said – “Rio is not only the candidate of NDPP but for Chief Ministership he is also the candidate of BJP”.
The NEDA convener also said, “We are decent people”; thus, all BJP workers will help NDPP nominee Y Vikheho Swu win the Pughoboto seat”.
Meanwhile, sources said BJP National President J P Nadda would likely visit Kohima on February 23. He could also go to Viswema village in Southern Angami II, where BJP has fielded Kropol Vitsu for the first time in the Angami belt.
Amit Shah said the ENPO demand for a separate state was legitimate in his speech. “We discussed and understood their problems and assured them that the new government that will be formed under (Chief Minister Neiphiu) Rio ji will resolve these after the Assembly elections.”
