Guwahati: A murder akin to the ill-famous Shraddha Walkar murder case jolted Assam on February 19 night. The murder occurred in Guwahati, where a woman has been accused of having killed her husband and mother-in-law, dismembering the bodies and stuffing the parts in a refrigerator, as Aftab Poonawala did in the Sraddha murder case.

According to the city police sources, the murder occurred in Guwahati’s Narangi locality, and the whole incident came to the fore on February 19 evening. The murder is thought to have resulted from an extra-marital affair of the accused woman Bandana Kalita. The accused woman Bandana Kalita killed her husband and mother-in-law in August 2022, cut the two victims’ bodies, and stuffed the parts inside a refrigerator. Three days after the murder, the parts of the two bodies were dumped in the hills of Meghalaya.

The prime accused Bandana Kalita killed her husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and mother-in-law Shankari Dey, along with her lover and friend.

It may be noted that the mother-son duo were reported missing in August last year. The accused wife subsequently reported a missing case at Noonmati police station in Guwahati in August 2022. Guwahati police after a detailed arrested accused wife Bandana Kalita and the spine-chilling murder case came to the fore.

The partners of the heinous crime of accused Bandana Kalita have been identified as Arup Deka and Dhanjit Deka. They helped her to kill both Amarjyoti Dey and Shankari Dey, and later the two disposed of the bodies in Meghalaya.

The accused, Bandana Kalita, has been taken into custody and is being kept at the Panbazar All Women Police Station in Guwahati.

During the interrogation, Bandana revealed that after killing her husband and mother-in-law, she and her two partners had cut the bodies into smaller pieces and stuffed them inside a refrigerator. Three days after the murder, they took the body parts to Meghalaya, where they dumped off the parts at separate places, she further revealed in front of investigating officers.

Guwahati police have started a search operation for the victims’ body parts in the neighbouring Meghalaya state.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light in the police investigation that prime accused Bandana Kalita was a serial adulterer and had relations with several men. She and her boyfriend killed the mother-son duo intending to grab over the property belonging to her husband. The murder was committed with full planning, and her boyfriend helped her in the crime. But how she and her boyfriend killed the mother-son duo is still a matter of investigation.

The murder bears startling resemblances to the recent Shraddha Walkar murder case in Delhi that shocked the entire nation. But in this case, in Guwahati, the duel murder occurred in August 2022 and came to the fore on February 19 2023, after the arrest of the prime accused, Bandana Kalita.
