Two personnel of the Chhattisgarh police were martyred in a deadly Maoist attack near Bortalav of Rajnandgaon in the insurgency-hit Chhattisgarh on February 20.

The incident occurred when both jawans were riding on a two-wheeler only a kilometer from the Bortalav camp where both were posted.

The deceased personnel have been identified as Rajesh Singh Parihar of the district police force and constable Lalit Samrat of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF).

As per the reports, both the Jawans were on their way to the nearby Maharashtra border when a group of around 15 armed cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India opened indiscriminate fire upon them.

One of the Jawan Rajesh Parihar, who several bullets had hit, died on the spot, while Lalit was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he breathed his last. It’s been reported that the jawans were unarmed, and the Maoist also set ablaze the two-wheeler of the personnel before fleeing the spot.

Speaking on the development, the district superintendent of police Rajnandgaon, Abhishek Meena, said that “two of our jawans posted in bortalav camp have been martyred in a Maoist attack that occurred between 7 to 8 in the morning, search operations have been intensified within the vicinity of the spot.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in a tweet expressing his grief about the incident, said that the martyrdom of our jawans would not go in vain.”

It should be noted that Chief Minister Baghel has recently been on target of the opposition (BJP), who has recently accused the Baghel-led congress Government of going soft on red terrorism in the State.

It is worth mentioning that as many as four party workers, including the BJP’s district vice president of Narayanpur, Sagar Sahu, were killed in separate attacks by the Maoist in the last month alone.
