Assam: Police rescued 55 cows; Cow smugglers Alom Ali, Mustafa Ahmed and Shafiqul Islam arrested

Guwahati: It’s been a series of successes for the Nagaon police in 2023 against the cow smugglers racket. Nagaon police has successfully foiled many attempts by cow smugglers to transport cattles out of the State. On February 16, Nagaon police team led by Sub Inspector Ramanikanta Das intercepted one vehicle bearing Reg. No. NL02 K3695 loaded with 23 cows. The cows were being illegally transported from the Moran Rajmai area of Sivasagar District towards the neighbouring state of Meghalaya. Accordingly, the cattle heads along with the vehicle were seized.

The driver of the vehicle namely Mohd Alom Ali apprehended. Two cow smugglers were escorting the cattle-loaded vehicle but fled when the police team intercepted the truck under Borghat police station of the district.
Acting on a source information on February 15  night, Nagaon police intercepted one 1109 Truck bearing Reg. No. AS02 CC2238 loaded with 22 cattle heads. The cows were transported without valid documents. The police team seized the truck, and 22 cows were recovered under the Jakhalabandha police station. Cow smugglers, Mustafa Ahmed and Safiqul Islam, were arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.

It should be mentioned that on February 11 Nagaon police successfully foiled three attempts of cow smugglers and recovered 87 cows on their way to the slaughterhouse. The police seized five vehicles and arrested seven most wanted cow smugglers. Two cow smugglers, namely Mohd Akkash Ali and Mohd Tabajul Hussain, was apprehended from national highway 37 along with 23 cows. Ikramul Hoque was arrested with 30 cows from the Raha area.

Two cow smugglers Md. Sahajul Hoque and Mohd Akash Ali was arrested with 24 cows. Two cattle smugglers, namely Nazibur Rahman and Dildar Hussain were arrested with 10 cows.
