Imran Khan will be arrested if they launch protests, says Pakistan’s interior minister Sanaullah Khan

On February 6, 2023, Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah Khan warned former Prime Minister Imran Khan that Imran would be arrested if he dared to launch an anti-government process.

Sanaullah Khan gave his statement while speaking to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz workers at a party conference in Multan, Punjab (Pakistan), the Dawn reported.

The warning from Sanaullah Khan comes days after Imran Khan appealed his supporters to prepare for the prison movement Jail Bharo Tehreek (Prison Movement) against the government for inflicting custodial torture on his party leaders and delay in announcing elections.

From his Zaman Park residence, Imran Khan stated that the people should get ready and wait for his call for “Jail Bharo Tehreek”. There will not be any sufficient space to accommodate them all, said Khan on February 4, 2023.

On February 5, 2023, Sanaullah Khan also blamed the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf leadership for creating trouble and indulging in politics of agitation. The interior minister hoped that Imran would get to the same prison cell where he used to rot.

A former minister of the Pakistan government Farrukh Habib said, “He will go to jail first”. The party leadership are not afraid of going to jail when Imran Khan asks, he added.

Notably, in 2022, Imran was forced to suppress his long march to the capital Islamabad following an assassination attempt on him.

In May 2022, he had to call off the ‘Azadi Rally’ moments after his party workers entered the federal capital.

Imran Khan came to power in the year 2018. He was removed from his post in a no-confidence vote in Parliament in April 2022. Ever since he was ousted from power, he has upped the ante on the ruling coalition to announce snap polls. The term of the Shehbaz Sharif government will end in August 2023.
