Amartya Sen: The Nehruvian Who’s a Common Link between TMC & CPM

CPM leadership's not raising objection against Sen's advocacy of Mamata as PM for whatever cause is identical to CPM's endorsement of Sen's statement

Many people opine Amartya Sen should not be given so much social media space as he has no relevance and is solely a typical leftist from behind his scholarly appearance. In spite of such public opinion about him, people are not refraining from discussing, with satire, about him and his recent opinion about Mamata Banerjee’s eligibility to be the Indian Prime Minister. In relation to this, a timeline of a recent discourse that began 6 months back in July 2022 may be recalled.

In July last year, Amartya Sen was nominated for BONGO VIBHUSHAN Award given by Govt. of West Bengal (read Mamata Banerjee) as these awards were one of the ways by which Mamata Banerjee either bagged the support of West Bengal’s prominent people or prevented their political antagonism. Many such prominent people who aligned with CPM earlier turned followers of Mamata Banerjee’s politics in response to her Award Mechanism, while such people with staunch CPM alignment didn’t subscribe to her ideology even after receiving such awards. Though these staunch CPM ones didn’t change their political alignment after receiving awards, they, out of courtesy feeling, stayed away from criticising Mamata’s rule of corruption as a ‘return gift’. Thus, the award phenomenon either gathered the eminent people’s support for her or at least protected her from their antagonism.

Amartya Sen seems a veteran of the global Islamo-leftist lobby who’s a common link between both CPM & TMC, and that is why CPM is unable to oppose Amartya Sen while he states Mamata has eligibility to be the Prime Minister of India. Amartya Sen, thus, reflects the political reality of West Bengal as a State where the leadership of all leftist parties are in the coalition against the BJP.

On July 22, 2022, Trinamool Congress’ Secretary General Partha Chatterjee was arrested by ED on account of a School Recruitment Scam in West Bengal. Immediately after that, on around July 23, CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty appealed to all those people who had been nominated for BONGO awards that year to refuse the same protest against the terrible corruption in school recruitment. Following this, Amartya Sen was reported, on July 24, to have refused the BONGO VIBHUSHAN award and a political slugfest kick-started thereafter on such refusal. CPM tried to claim that Sen refused BONGO VIBHUSHAN, responding to Sujan Chakraborty’s call for an Award boycott, while TMC claimed that Amartya Sen wanted someone else to receive it as he’d received numerous such awards in his lifetime. It was his generosity to let others get the opportunity. The slugfest went up to an extent when West Bengal Chief Secretary Harikrishna Dwivedi had to step in to assert to the media that Amartya Sen didn’t refuse the award but rather said the award might be given to someone else. It is to be recalled that Calcutta High Court once marked Harikrishna Dwivedi as TMC’s canvassing agent. This extremely powerful IAS of very high connection remained so close to Mamata from 2012 that it’s not wrong to call him her right hand.

People could have admitted the statement of the West Bengal Chief Secretary that Amartya Sen didn’t refuse BONGO VIBHUSHAN, but rather became generous so that the award could go to someone else. However, when CPM awarded Sen on August 5 the Mujjafar Ahmed Trust Prize for Sen’s book ‘Home in the World: A Memoir’, it appeared as if CPM had to compensate for the loss Sen incurred by refusing BONGO VIBHUSHAN. Doubts precipitated once again that Amartya Sen refused BONGO VIBHUSHAN upon CPM’s request, and that is why CPM had to release another award for him to compensate for his loss. However, after receiving the award from CPM last year in August, Sen recommended Mamata’s name as PM of India in January this year and made no mistake, CPM has no scope to raise objection against the such choice of Sen though CPM knows it all how Mamata is exploiting the State of West Bengal by means of endless corruption at every level. From all such incidents, it is hardly difficult to understand the profile of Amartya Sen. His political importance appears such that both TMC & CPM has to keep him gratified & awards appear as means of such gratification. He, too, appears to cater to both the political parties’ needs depending on their relative importance in the contemporary global political scenario. Amartya Sen seems a veteran of the global Islamo-leftist lobby who’s a common link between both CPM & TMC and that is why CPM is unable to oppose Amartya Sen while he states Mamata has eligibility to be the Prime Minister of India. Amartya Sen, thus, reflects the political reality of West Bengal as a State where the leadership of all leftist parties are in the coalition against the BJP.

CPM leadership’s not raising objections against Sen’s advocacy of Mamata as PM for whatever cause is identical to CPM’s endorsement of Sen’s statement. Sen’s recommendation of Mamata as PM also demonstrates the fact that the global lobby to which Sen belongs to, wants the devastation of Bharat in the hands of Mamata Banerjee, similar to what she has ensured for West Bengal in the last 11 years. And as CPM leadership doesn’t oppose Amartya Sen’s choice of Mamata as PM, it indicates unambiguous support of CPM leaders behind Mamata. Those who allege a TMC-BJP unholy nexus in West Bengal need to take note of this fact.
