Sri Ram Sene’s Belagavi president Ravi Kokitakera and his driver escaped with injuries in a firing incident in Karnataka’s Hindalaga village area, the police said on January 8.

Officials said that Ravi Kokitakera escaped with injuries on the chin after an unknown person fired the bullets.

According to officials, both were taken to a nearby hospital and admitted there. They are out of danger now.

Further, a case has been registered in Belagavi rural police station. A probe has been also initiated to identify and nab the accused.

Belagavi city police commissioner MB Boralingaiah said, “Four teams have been formed to probe the case.” The police have stepped up security in Belagavi city and the district following the incident.

Kokitkar recently held a campaign to install a portrait of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar in the Hindalga central prison where he was jailed for 99 days.

After the incident, Pramod Mutalik, chief of Sri Rama Sene condemned the attack in a video message.

In the statement issued through a video, Mutalik said, “Hindu activists do not fear such attempts by miscreants. To answer them, we are staging protests across the state. Hindu Samajotsav will be held in Belagavi at Sambhaji Garden on January 10 evening. The police department must take this issue seriously and punish the culprits at the earliest,”.
